Assist the surgical team in the performance of operating procedures and to select instruments and supplies for surgical procedures. General supervision is received from Nurse Manager or other designated official. Nonexempt.

Responsibilities include: assisting the surgical team during operating procedures by passing instruments, sponges and sutures to surgeons and surgical assistants; selecting and layout instruments for operating procedures; preparing sterile supplies for operating procedures; preparing surgical trays for operating procedures; assisting in the preparation of patients for surgery; moving patients after completion of surgery for transfer to Recovery area; processing patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Required qualifications include: graduation from high school or equivalent combination of education and experience; completion of an accredited or military Surgical Technologist program or a program pending immediate accreditation; certification from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); one year of Surgical Technologist Senior experience, in good standing, at the University of Michigan Health System. This position requires primary source verification.

Desired qualifications include: some experience as a Surgical Technologist; and certification from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

This position requires a fully onsite presence. This is a full-time (40 hr/wk) Day/Night rotator position.

Work location: Ann Arbor, MI.

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
