The Engineering Technician plays a critical hands-on role in ensuring the reliability, uptime, and quality of kiosk equipment by testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and refurbishing modular components and service parts. This position supports field operations by maintaining a clean, organized shop, accurately capturing technical data during repairs, and contributing to root cause analysis efforts. On average, the technician works on approximately 100 kiosks per month and directly impacts equipment support efficiency and service performance.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical diagnosis, bench testing, repair, and refurbishment of sub-assemblies and modular service parts to support kiosk reliability and uptime.

• Check in returned service parts, apply identification and tracking labels, manage repair queues, and prepare and package outgoing shipments via FedEx.

• Use internal ticketing systems and Webport to log repair steps, document resolutions, update part statuses, and accurately record daily returns and component movements.

• Reproduce reported failures, gather detailed technical failure metrics, and collaborate with Engineering to identify recurring defect trends and support root cause analysis.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient shop workstation, ensuring full compliance with shop safety, organization standards, and packaging procedures for outgoing shipments.

• Assist in drafting and updating standardized repair procedures and documentation to improve consistency and quality of repair and refurbishment processes.

• Achieve proficiency in mechanical repair and refurbishment of equipment and service modules within the first 30 days of employment.

• Maintain repair turnaround times and quality standards that meet or exceed internal Service Level Agreements.

• Consistently capture high-quality technical failure data to support Engineering and Operations in continuous improvement and defect reduction efforts.

• Follow technical schematics, assembly guides, and standard operating procedures to ensure accurate and safe repairs.

• Safely handle tools, components, and equipment, demonstrating strong physical dexterity and adherence to safety practices.

• Contribute to a collaborative, innovation-focused environment by supporting R&D and service initiatives related to kiosk equipment and sample delivery systems.

Essential Skills

• Associate’s degree or technical certification in Mechanical Technology.

• Experience in hands-on diagnosing, repairing, and testing electro-mechanical equipment and assemblies.

• Familiarity with digital ticketing and inventory management tools, as well as basic computer productivity software.

• Ability to read and follow technical schematics, assembly guides, and standard operating procedures with a high degree of accuracy.

• Strong physical dexterity and ability to safely handle tools, components, and electro-mechanical assemblies.

• Comfort working with electro-mechanical systems in a repair, refurbishment, and testing environment.

• Ability to accurately log repair activities, part movements, and technical findings in internal systems.

• Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality standards and meeting service level expectations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with Google Workspace tools.

• Electrical troubleshooting experience in an equipment repair or maintenance setting.

• Interest in long-term employment with opportunities to convert from contract to a permanent role after 12 months.

• Ability to work effectively in a small, close-knit team environment with both on-site and remote colleagues.

• Strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to shop cleanliness, safety, and workflow efficiency.

Work Environment

This role is based in a small, collaborative facility with approximately nine on-site team members, supported by additional remote staff. The local team manufactures, builds, tests, repairs, and services kiosk equipment that delivers rotating sample products in retail club and grocery environments across the United States. The workweek is 40 hours with no overtime, and employees may choose from shifts such as 6:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., or 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with a preference for a 6:00 a.m. or 7:00 a.m. start. The environment is hands-on and shop-based, involving bench testing, equipment repair, and packaging of service parts for shipment via FedEx. The company culture emphasizes innovation, R&D, and strong service orientation, with many employees remaining long term, reflecting a stable and engaging workplace. This position begins as a minimum six-month contract with the potential to extend, and includes right-to-hire terms at 12 months. Based on current workload, the organization anticipates long-term employment opportunities. Contract employees receive paid time off, including five days over a six-month period and ten days over a 12-month period, along with all major holidays that fall within the contract term. Appropriate shop attire is expected to support safety and comfort in a technical repair environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $31.25/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
