Limited Commissioned Ranger / Lead Inspector - Trinidad Port of Entry

Position Summary Temporary position (9 months or less), paid $19.00 per hour. Employment starts 03/08/2026 through 10/31/2026. Responsibilities Limited Commission Ranger – an unarmed law‑enforcement position that focuses on customer service, public contact, and enforcement of Colorado Parks and Wildlife laws and regulations. Perform boat inspection and decontamination duties at Trinidad Port of Entry, including training of inspection staff, scheduling, shift coverage, payroll accuracy, and recruitment recommendations. Conduct quality‑control assessments of staff performance, maintain accurate data entry, and manage inventory of required supplies, power washer and decontamination units, and troubleshooting. Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species. Enforce state wildlife rules, issue citations, resolve visitor complaints and conflicts, complete reports, and testify in court as required. Answer visitor inquiries and provide information regarding aquatic invasive species. Perform all duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be 21 years of age or older. Must have a current and valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. Must not have used marijuana within 12 months or any illegal drugs within 36 months. Must have no felony, domestic violence, or other crimes that would disqualify POST certification. Must have passed a comprehensive background check. Must be available for various shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and inclement weather. Must be able to perform outdoor physical work that may involve climbing in/out of vessels or vehicles and operating under trailers. Uniform items will be provided; employee may have to purchase limited items at own expense. Must attend and complete required Colorado State Park training (may include OC spray). Must have or be able to obtain valid first aid and CPR certifications. Must work with limited supervision and well within a team. Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills for excellent customer service. Basic computer skills required (MS Office Suite, Google App Suite). Preference may be given to applicants with or working toward a Natural Resources degree or similar education. Fleet and Driving Standards All employees who drive a State‑owned vehicle must maintain a safe driving record, a valid driver’s license, and be compliant with the new fleet vehicle policy. Motor vehicle records will be reviewed for employees who: Have an assigned State fleet vehicle. Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position. Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle. Physical Requirements This position requires physical activities that involve considerable use of arms and legs. Tasks include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. The candidate must be able to perceive color differences and hear verbal and radio communications.
