One-to-One Child Support Worker

The Position

The position of One-to-One Child Support Worker in the Summer Fun program is an opportunity to assist Nation children (ages 5 - 11) in accessing and participating in the program, and to provide positive mentorship and support. The one-to-one ratio allows for a specialized focus on the individual child’s needs, abilities, and goals. Children supported by this position are identified through their collaborative support team, which involves their caregivers, the CFS Team, and CMS support personnel. This position will be managed by the Wellness Centre Manager and the Wellness Center Program Supervisor and will be under the general supervision of the Child Wellness Coordinator and other program leads. The One-to-One Child Support Worker will serve as a caring person in the child’s life and will make themselves available to listen, support, and engage with individual children they are supporting in a healthy manner.

This position is from June 22, 2026 – September 4, 2026. Must be available for work between 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with occasional extended hours for off-coast trips.

The Candidate:

• Provide direct service support to children on a one-to-one ratio in the Summer Fun program.
• Utilize and inform the Behaviour Support Plan of the child to understand their needs, abilities, and goals so they can be supported to participate in the Summer Fun program.
• Work alongside Wellness Centre and Education staff to deliver activities for the child in the Summer Fun program and provide adaptations as needed.
• Support to ensure the child can safely participate in various activities in the Summer Fun program and provide alternative supported activities as needed.
• Be a caring mentor to the child in summer programming, listening to their needs, supporting them in completing activities, and ensuring safety measures are followed.
• Communicate weekly with the Wellness Centre and Education teams about any feedback or requests for support. 
• Independent problem-solving using sound judgement and the ability to make real-time decisions. 
• Work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Effectively deal with conflicts and find resolutions.
• Adjust to new or unexpected events and situations, and effectively adjust priorities and time management.
• Participate in job-related training.
• Other duties as assigned (i.e. program development, assisting with supportive housing, special projects, etc.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

• Minimum age requirement at the time of intake: 18 years old.
• Must be willing and able to pass a criminal record check.
• Knowledge and experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health concerns and behaviours.
• An understanding of the needs and barriers faced by individuals with various abilities.
• First Aid Certification; training will be provided.
• Positive Behaviour Management Training will be provided. Effective interpersonal skills. 
• Capacity to establish effective relationships with children/ youth/ families and extended families.
• Knowledge and understanding of the behavioural effects of abuse and neglect. 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
• Ability to communicate professionally with external agencies and effectively/sensitively with clients from diverse backgrounds. Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with sensitive situations.
• Experience working with children in a recreation or education setting is an asset.
