Accountant

Position Title
Accountant. This is a full-time exempt position.

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the CFO, to determine financial objectives; including financial reports, cost reports; analyzes such reports for variances; develops & monitors internal control mechanisms and maintains financial accounting system; develop clinical capacity models which track clinical usage, utilization and cost per visits; develop database reporting systems to track and project productivity and profitability as well as providing analytical support to the accounting team.


Supervision Received
The accountant will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Typical Physical Demands
Requires sitting for long periods of time. Some bending, lifting, stooping, and stretching required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate office equipment such as computer keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and calculator.

Typical Working Conditions
Normal office and clinic environment. May require evening and/or weekend work. Working under stress. Travel required.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Works closely with the CFO and Deputy CFO on all accounting functions, including operating budgets for specific programs/grants.
• Exercises control to ensure expenditures do not exceed budgetary limits. Establish a centralized general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll system.
• Develops and maintains effective system of general accounting and cost determination.
• Maintains general ledger and all books of original entry using double entry, accrual, and fund accounting methods. Prepares monthly general and standard journal entries.
• Maintains and reviews cost center and appropriation accounts, to verify accuracy with coding, classifying and posting.
• Reconciles all assets and liability accounts monthly and reports findings to CFO or designee.
• Maintains internal control system for cash and other company assets.
• Assists independent and program auditors with interim and year end audits
• Arrange for the annual financial audits, and federal Medicare and Medicaid cost reports.
• Develops various financial management reports as needed.
• Responsible for the coordination of Finance Department with other departments.
• Keeps informed of all government regulations and procedures affecting corporate finance and accounting procedures.
• Prepare monthly and fiscal reports to be presented to the CFO for approval.
• Participate in development of departmental objectives.
• Performs related work as required and other duties as assigned by CFO.

Performance Requirements

• Knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Knowledge of Statutory accounting principles.
• Strong analytical and accounting skills.
• Understanding of Health Centers, Medicaid/Medicare Billings
• Able to work effectively in a team setting.
• Able to work with minimal up-front guidance and take ownership of his/her work product.
• Must have strong proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.

Experience

• Must have a minimum of five (5) years' experience working with a health center organization, preferably an FQHC.
• Must have experience in managing federal, state and local grant funding.

Education/Certificate/License

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent from an accredited college or university is desired.

Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $70,000.00 - $70,000.00 Per Year
