MAINTENANCE MECHANIC III - HOBBY

Position Overview The Houston Airport System – Hobby Airport Terminal Maintenance division requires a Maintenance Mechanic III to prevent mechanical failure, identify and correct safety hazards, and inspect, repair, clean and maintain equipment including pumps, rotating machinery and plumbing fixtures across all HAS facilities. Responsibilities Install mechanical equipment and components. Repair, refurbish and maintain pumps (hydraulic, oil, gas, diesel) and miscellaneous rotating and reciprocating equipment. Operate vehicles to and from work sites and operate equipment such as high‑pressure drain cleaners, forklifts, generators, leak‑prone dig driers, etc. Provide preventive maintenance of equipment, buildings, facilities and systems (elevators, escalators, automatic doors, ticket dispensers, heating/C–O equipment). Respond to corrective maintenance emergency calls within 15 minutes of notification. Maintain plumbing fixtures using industry methods, materials and equipment. Perform additional building maintenance activities such as painting, air‑conditioner repairs, carpentry, carpet, concrete, and roofing repairs. Enter updates and complete work-order data in the maintenance management system with minimal supervision. Lead and train lower‑level personnel as necessary. Keep equipment operational by completing preventive maintenance checklist requirements; follow manufacturer manuals; troubleshoot malfunctions; call for repairs and complete daily check sheets. Qualifications Education and Training – 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level in a specialized trade or mechanical area. Experience – One year of experience in building or mechanical maintenance. License and Certifications – Valid Texas driver’s license; may require a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Must obtain all security badge access including Custom Border Patrol access within 6 months from hire date. Preferences – Airport experience; veteran preference in accordance with Executive Order 1‑6. Working Conditions The position involves considerable physical exertion, including climbing ladders, lifting up to 80 pounds, standing for extended periods, and exposure to heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The role requires regular weekend and holiday shifts and may involve exposure to chemicals and minor physical trauma.
