Position Summary The Department of Osteopathic Principles, Practice, & Integration invites part‑time faculty candidates for Clinical Faculty within the School of Osteopathic Medicine (UIWSOM) at University of the Incarnate Word. The faculty member will operate within the UIWSOM framework of lifelong learning through collaborative scholarship, innovative educational excellence, and learner‑centered curricula. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities include teaching and professional activities as assigned. This position teaches out of the UIW’s Brooks City Base Campus located at 7615 Kennedy Hill, San Antonio, TX 78235. This applicant pool will remain online for hiring during the 2026-2027 academic year. Benefits This position is not benefits eligible. Essential Functions Basic Instructional Duties Teach based on approved departmental syllabi; prepare and deliver consistent, interactive instruction that involves the collaborative development and implementation of competency‑based, innovative, and integrated teaching and learning strategies. Teaching activities include clinical reasoning, medical interviewing, communication, physical examination, osteopathic manipulative medicine, and medical procedures; may also involve interaction with standardized patient actors and simulation models. Prepare and administer timely and meaningful assessments for assigned units. Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met. Mentor and/or advise as assigned by the Chair. Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies and processes including timely record‑keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding performance in the course. Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom. Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings upon request. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge base and experience in one’s discipline as it relates to the practice of medicine. Excellent communication skills. Strong knowledge base of medical history taking and clinical skills. Knowledge of osteopathic philosophy and osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT). Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in complex interdisciplinary and interprofessional settings. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA. Required Education D.O. or M.D. degree from an accredited U.S. medical school. Required Work Experience Completion of an ACGME‑accredited residency training program. Preferred Qualifications Completion of an ACGME‑accredited residency training program in a primary care specialty (e.g., Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Ob/Gyn). One (1) year of post‑residency/fellowship clinical practice. Active use of osteopathic manipulation in clinical practice. Experience teaching OMT to osteopathic medical students, residents, and/or physicians. Experience with case‑based and active learning methods in both small and large group settings. Experience in computer‑assisted delivery of course content. Fluent in Spanish. Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations Current board certification or board eligibility in specialty, with a valid unrestricted Texas medical license, or ability to obtain Texas licensure in a reasonable time frame. Work Hours Part time (0.2 FTE) 8 hours/week or 16 hours/week (0.4 FTE). All regularly scheduled activities occur at Brooks City Base Campus all day on Tuesdays, Thursdays or both Tuesdays and Thursdays. Work on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays may be considered; negotiable with the Chair. Faculty may work one day per week or two days per week; negotiable with the Chair.
