This job profile is primarily research responsibilities.Job Description:Salary: $72,000Position OverviewThe Postdoctoral Research Scholar will be stationed at Brookhaven National Laboratory as required by the grant and will conduct experimental and computational research on nitride-based III-V photocathode heterostructures. The role supports advanced development and characterization of next-generation polarized electron sources through integrated experimental and simulation-based approaches.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop and optimize electron optics systems for spin-polarization measurements of photocathodesPerform Cs/NF₃ activation of III-V photocathode surfaces under ultra-high-vacuum conditionsConduct quantum efficiency (QE) spectral response measurements and related beam diagnosticsDesign and implement optical setups for spin rotation and polarization measurementsPerform charge transport modeling and simulations of III-V semiconductor photocathodesSupport experimental operations at Brookhaven National Laboratory and ensure proper system integrationAnalyze and interpret experimental and simulation data to guide photocathode performance optimizationMinimum QualificationsPh.D. in Physics or closely related field (or Ph.D. completion expected within the current academic timeline)Research experience in photocathode science, electron beam physics, or related accelerator physicsDemonstrated ability to conduct independent, research-intensive work in experimental physicsDesired QualificationsExperience with nanostructured III-V photocathodes and/or negative electron affinity (NEA) materialsPrior work with high-voltage electron guns and beamline diagnosticsExperience in ultra-high-vacuum (UHV) systems and photocathode activation techniques (e.g., Cs/NF₃)Strong background in electron optics design and beam transport simulationsProficiency in nanophotonic modeling and charge transport simulations (e.g., FDTD, CHARGE or similar tools)Experience with QE measurements, spin-polarization systems, and optical system designStrong computational skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for data analysis and modelingWorking EnvironmentThe postdoctoral researcher will work in a collaborative, research-intensive environment based primarily at Brookhaven National Laboratory, with close coordination with the Arizona State University research group. The position involves access to advanced experimental facilities and instrumentation for photocathode fabrication, activation, and characterization, as well as computational resources for charge transport and multiscale simulations.
