Job Title: RN II-MED-SURG Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical-Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of one year in medical-surgical experience required License: Current RN license in state of practice required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor required Must-Have: Epic experience required Description: Responsible for the planning, coordination, and provision of nursing care to patients on the medical-surgical unit. This position is responsible for age-related physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of patients across different age groups including adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Responsibilities include care planning, monitoring vital signs, medication administration, assessing physiological changes, and addressing psychosocial needs. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel within their scope of practice. Essential functions include providing appropriate nursing interventions in both stable and emergent patient situations. The nurse must demonstrate competency in routine nursing skills such as medication administration, intravenous therapy, care and maintenance of indwelling catheters and drains, and safe use of medical equipment like glucose meters and IV pumps. The position requires the ability to meet the physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of patients including those with disabilities. Nurses initiate multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plans in collaboration with healthcare team members and provide care based on these plans. Competency in managing epidurals, caring for acute post-operative wounds, utilizing sterile techniques, and assessing vascular patency is essential. The nurse educates patients and/or their families regarding care using age-appropriate and culturally sensitive teaching methods. Tasks are delegated to ancillary personnel based on individual competency and scope of practice. Evaluation of the effectiveness of care provided is a key responsibility. The role involves timely and accurate documentation of all nursing care provided, including evaluations of patients' responses to treatments. Additionally, the nurse actively participates in orienting and training new employees, students, and ancillary staff. This position seeks individuals who can identify and communicate opportunities for improving care, services, and operations. Flexibility and a willingness to embrace ongoing change and new goals are essential attributes for success in this role. Other job-related duties may be assigned as needed. Adherence to vaccination requirements is mandatory. This position may include additional organizational requirements as directed.
