Caltrans Highway Maintenance Worker Department of Transportation Classification: JC-522030 Salary: $4,102.00 – $4,865.00 per month (New to State candidates hired at minimum salary) Final Filing Date: 7/11/2026 Job Summary Operate Category 1 and Category 2 equipment including end‑dump trucks, front‑end loaders, motor graders, snow blowers, trailers, flail and slope mowers, and other related vehicles to perform highway maintenance duties. Working Conditions Work in a wide range of conditions including temperatures up to 120°F, down to –15°F, high winds, rain, sleet, and snow. Overtime may be required due to storms, emergencies, special projects, or supervisory decision. Minimum Requirements Eligibility via Caltrans Highway Maintenance Worker exam (score), or state examination list for candidates without current eligibility. Valid Class C driver’s license, and valid and unrestricted Class C license for operating state owned or leased vehicles. Drug screening passed prior to hire. Possession of required qualifications including education, license, or certificate (unofficial or official transcripts accepted). Foreign transcripts require U.S. equivalency report.
