Registered Nurse 1 Psychiatric (Bronx ATC) (NY HELPS)

Job Overview Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 Psy or Registered Nurse 2 Psy, incumbents serve as members of a multidisciplinary team performing a variety of nursing and client care activities designed to ensure that clients receive all necessary care in accordance with the nursing care plan, established protocols, and standards of health care. Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care to clients, including comprehensive admission assessments, dispensing medication, physician‑ordered medical treatment, transcribing orders, and collecting specimens for laboratory analysis or culture. Provide health education to clients, monitor client behavior, and participate in treatment planning. Assess the needs of clients, including the assessment of care received, services available, and work environments to identify potential obstacles to success. Handle crisis intervention with clients (psychological, physiological, and behavioral). Maintain accurate and detailed reports and records electronically and/or physically as appropriate. Supervise clinical staff, including licensed, paraprofessional, and direct‑care personnel (e.g., Addictions Counselors); assist with administrative supervision such as developing performance standards; and serve as shift supervisor on evening or night shifts. Assist in general client care activities, such as meal preparation, distribution, and room preparation. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment; monitor clients and ensure building security. Perform other job‑related duties assigned. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a license and current registration to practice nursing in New York State. Candidate must be eligible and maintain full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs; failure to maintain licensure, certification, or eligibility will result in termination of employment. Additional Requirements Position may be designated 55 b/c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Mandatory overtime (MOT) is a requirement; chosen candidates will be added to the mandatory overtime roster, which is utilized on a rotating basis, during emergencies and when all other staffing options have been exhausted. Title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS); for the duration of the program the title may be filled via a non‑competitive appointment. In May 2024, a satisfactory temporary NY HELPS employee may have their appointment changed to permanent non‑competitive status with a probationary period.
