Shipping and Receiving Assistant

PGS Worldwide is seeking a Shipping and Receiving Assistant in Mitchel Field, NY for a one-year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.

The Shipping and Receiving Assistant will support manual and clerical shipping and receiving duties in a warehouse or material handling environment. This role requires computer tracking experience, shipping documentation support, material verification, safe material handling practices, and the ability to lift 50 lbs or more.

Required Skills

• Ability to lift 50 lbs or more.
• Ability to use computer systems to track, log, verify, and report material activity.
• Ability to follow shipping practices, procedures, transportation routing, schedules, and requirements.
• Ability to receive incoming materials and prepare materials for shipment.
• Ability to pack, unpack, wrap, and unwrap items such as finished products, raw stock, assemblies, parts, supplies, equipment, or related materials.
• Ability to verify quantity, weight, and material identification.
• Ability to process freight bills, packing sheets, bills of lading, and shipping documents.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
• Ability to work in a warehouse or central shipping and receiving environment.
• Ability to follow safety, PPE, lifting, and material handling requirements.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with shipping/receiving systems, inventory systems, freight documentation, bills of lading, packing sheets, or carrier routing.
• Experience supporting aerospace, defense, manufacturing, warehouse, stockroom, or logistics operations.
• Familiarity with warehouse safety practices such as Foreign Object Debris prevention, Electrostatic Discharge handling, HAZMAT awareness, hoist safety, PPE requirements, lifting practices, or compressed air safety.

What You'll Do

• Perform shipping and receiving duties in a warehouse environment.
• Use computer systems to track, log, verify, and report material movement.
• Receive incoming materials and prepare outgoing shipments.
• Pack, unpack, wrap, and unwrap materials and products.
• Verify material quantity, weight, and identification.
• Log receipt of items in the system.
• Process freight bills, packing sheets, bills of lading, and related documents.
• Post weight and shipping charges as needed.
• Route merchandise and materials to the correct destinations.
• Follow shipping procedures, transportation routing, schedules, and requirements.
• Support safe material handling, lifting, PPE usage, and warehouse safety practices.

Pay

• $20.00-$25.00/hour
