Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Performs advanced visual, dimensional, functional, documentation, welding, and NDE inspections using Hexagon CMM, FARO Arm, Romer Arm, Portable CMM, laser scanning and advanced metrology & NDE systems. Serves as the department technical expert, mentors lower-level inspectors, supports Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality, and ensures compliance with NOV QMS, API, AWS, ASME, ASNT, ABS and DNV requirements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform all duties of visual, dimensional, documentation, welding, and NDE.
Program, validate and optimize CMM inspection programs.
Perform advanced dimensional inspections using Hexagon CMM, FARO Arm, Romer Arm, Portable CMM, laser scanners and optical systems.
Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models and GD&T.
Conduct receiving, in-process, final, source and customer witness inspections.
Support Engineering with dimensional analysis and product disposition.
Lead measurement system troubleshooting and metrology investigations.
Support NCRs and root cause investigations.
Mentor and train inspectors.
Support ABS, DNV and customer audits.
Drive continuous improvement in metrology and inspection.

FACILITY/GROUP SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Program, validate, execute, and optimize Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection programs.
Develop and maintain CMM models utilizing CAD and Pro-E/Creo engineering models.
Perform advanced dimensional inspections using: Hexagon CMM, FARO Arm, Romer Arm, Portable CMM Systems, 3D Optical Scanners, Laser Scanning Equipment, Automated Inspection Systems
Perform Welding Inspection, PT, MT, RT Film Review
Develop inspection strategies for complex geometries and critical product features.
Analyze dimensional data and provide technical recommendations for product acceptance or disposition.
Maintain inspection programs, measurement databases, and metrology records.
Support implementation and validation of new inspection technologies and automation systems.
Maintain metrology equipment and ensure compliance with calibration requirements.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Technical Degree, Trade School Certification, or equivalent experience
Qualification in Hexagon CMM/FARO/Romer/Portable CMM/Laser Scanner
4 to 6 years of CMM, Romer Arm, Faro Arm, MetraSCAN 3D™ optical CMM scanner, and any automatic inspection equipment experience in programming and inspection
4 to 6 years of dimensional inspection and metrology experience in manufacturing, oil & gas, aerospace, defense, or related industries
Knowledge in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, material specifications and GD&T requirements.
NDE Certifications or experience in: Certified Welding Inspection (CWI), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Radiography Testing (RT) Film Interpretation and or Visual Testing (VT)
Experience with API 6A, 8C, 7K, 16A, 16C, 16D, 16F, and or 16RCD
Experience with Creo/CAD
Preferred Qualifications: ASNT Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Radiography Testing (RT) Level II
Preferred ASQ CMI (Certified Mechanical Inspector) or equivalent certificates.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience supporting customer audits, regulatory audits, and third-party inspections.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Ability to pass dimensional inspection training and testing.
Possess knowledge of precision measuring equipment.
Knowledge of ABS and DNV requirements for drilling equipment is a plus.
Knowledge of API 6A, 8C, 16A, 16c, 16D, 16F, 16RCD, ATEX, IECEx requirements is a plus.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to learn different software programs.
Willing to work flexible hours, including overtime, as required.
Expert understanding of dimensional inspection and metrology principles.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and technical documentation skills.
Ability to mentor and train inspectors and technicians.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

Expert knowledge of GD&T interpretation and application.
Advanced proficiency in: Hexagon CMM, FARO Arm, Romer Arm, Portable CMM Systems, 3D Scanning Technologies, Laser Scanning Equipment, Automated Inspection Systems
Competence in performing Welding Inspection and NDE of PT, MT, UT and or RT Film Interpretation
Ability to perform complex dimensional analysis and troubleshoot measurement issues.
Strong understanding of: Engineering Drawings, Material Specifications, Manufacturing Processes, and Quality Control Principles
Proficient with precision measuring equipment including Calipers, Micrometers, Bore Gages, Height Gages, Depth Gages, Radius Gages, Thread Gages, Surface Finish Profilometers, Optical Measurement Systems, etc.
