About the OrganizationFounded as separate organizations in 1948, Jewish Long Beach and the Barbara and Ray Alpert JCC (AJCC) are the newly merged single agency serving the functions of a Jewish community center, Jewish federation, and Jewish community foundation for the Long Beach and west Orange County areas. Jewish Long Beach and the AJCC administer a wide variety of programs and services, rooted in Jewish values but open to all, including early childhood education, summer camp, and after-school programs, adult education, services for seniors, leadership development, fitness and wellness programs, advocacy, and much more. The organization owns and operates an eight-acre multi-use campus in east Long Beach, has an annual operating budget of approximately $7 million, and manages approximately $35 million in philanthropic assets.Position SummaryThe Maintenance Associate is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of locker room, restrooms and the rest of the facility and readiness for meetings through setups. Under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance and the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Associate is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, functionality, and safety of the JLB/AJCC facilities. All work performed by the Maintenance Associate prioritized the health and safety of the members, visitors, and staff on the premises and anticipates the needs and provides what is needed to keep all areas of the facilities running smoothly and effectively.Essential Position ResponsibilitiesHousekeeping functions including the regular and special cleaning of the building and groundsUse and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; vacuums, brooms and mopsDaily inspections of all rooms to ensure safety, cleanliness and timely repair as neededAssist with the setup of facilities for meetings, conferences, and eventsPerform cleaning and related activities such as removing debris from sidewalks and stairsCarry and communicate through the walkie-talkieAttend to emergencies when necessary for custodial assistanceMinor grounds keeping dutiesAssisting with directing traffic for our parking lotMaintain the highest quality of courtesy, friendliness and service excellence toward members, visitors and staffUnderstand and support the AJCC’s mission and valuesWork effectively with all staff membersAdditional responsibilities may be assignedBehavioral ExpectationsClearly communicate the “mission,” ensuring everyone works toward the same goals.Create a positive environment where two-way communication, accountability, and strong trust are established.Promote teamwork and respect, both internally between staff as well as in community-facing contexts with donors, volunteers, members, and other stakeholders.Demonstrate the ability to respond with a high degree of responsiveness to the needs and requests of others, internally and externally. This person is required to stand and move (bend, stoop, squat, twist, reach, climb) about the entire building and grounds (up to 90% of working hours) including mechanical areas and the roof, climb ladders, and may operate hydraulic lift equipment. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Exposure to natural and chemical substances.Work EnvironmentThe work environment is primarily indoors and occasional exposure to outdoor elements will occur during the workday. The noise level is consistent with an Early Childhood Education center, fitness center and a building with significant access from the public. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to human blood, airborne particles, fumes and other potentially infectious materials.
