Journalism Intern

Position Summary New Mexico Educational Assistance Foundation –7400 Tiburon NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. An Off‑Campus Work‑Study Position (MUST have a Work‑Study Award). This role is ideal for students looking to gain hands‑on experience creating content for a digital news platform. Supervision Exercised Exercises no supervision. Primary Duties Pitch and write original news articles, features, or multimedia stories. Contribute photography to accompany stories or editorial assignments. Assist with researching and gathering information for ongoing stories. Conduct interviews (phone, video, or in‑person). Support fact‑checking and proofreading processes. Collaborate with editors and multimedia teams. Attend department meetings and contribute story ideas. Help manage content for digital platforms and social media. Monitor current events, with particular attention to New Mexico, and propose relevant story ideas. Minimum Qualifications Enrolled in a degree‑seeking program at UNM. Enrolled at least half‑time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (audit hours do not count). If on Work Study, must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress. Education: Equivalent to a high school diploma, currently enrolled in an accredited university with major coursework in Journalism, Communications, or English. Special Requirements: Ability to work in a standard office environment, including ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and lift 25 lbs. Preferred Qualifications Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field. Strong writing, grammar, and storytelling skills. Curiosity and a passion for news, current events, and media. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Basic understanding of AP Style.
