Assistant Dean II

Rutgers University – Newark (RU‑N) is an urban public research university and anchor institution located in Newark, New Jersey. The Rutgers Law School (RLS) seeks an experienced, strategically minded individual to serve as the Assistant Dean II of Bar Studies. This role will lead the Bar Studies Program in Newark, oversee the development of bar‑focused courses and initiatives, and monitor student success from matriculation through bar admission. Responsibilities Design, implement, and manage programming to improve and maintain bar passage rates at RLS, ensuring they are at or above those of peer institutions. Assist the Associate/Assistant Dean of Bar Studies in developing, teaching, and supervising courses focused on bar passage. Collaborate with academic success faculty to support bar‑related and broader academic success programming at RLS. Use student data and resources from internal and external partners to inform strategies. Track bar data and reporting, championing data‑driven decisions that advance bar passage and student success goals. Manage contractual relationships with vendors related to bar studies. Qualifications J.D. from an ABA‑approved law school with strong academic credentials. Current or prior admission to the bar of at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Minimum of 3 years of law‑related experience post‑law school graduation. Minimum of 2 years of experience in bar exam advising and/or tutoring. Preferred Qualifications At least 3 years of prior law school administrative experience, preferably related to bar preparation or academic support. Directing or supporting a law school bar preparation or academic support program. Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques within a legal or higher education setting. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Exemplary professional, administrative, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills with excellent oral and written proficiency. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and manage others. Creative and critical thinking to improve bar readiness and design innovative programs. Confidentiality, good judgment, and strong customer service when interacting with students, faculty, and staff. Knowledge of and experience with data, empirical analysis, and software applications. Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy. Creative problem‑solving within established policies, guidelines, accreditation standards, and applicable law. Compensation Grade 07. Salary ranges: Minimum: $89,008.48 Mid range: $110,322.48 Maximum: $131,636.48 The final salary offer may be determined by qualifications, experience, responsibilities, and available funding.
