About the Position

Job Title: Step-Down Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:30) Experience: 2+ years of recent Step-Down experience License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Cardiac monitoring - Dysrhythmia interpretation - IV/Vascular management Description: The Step-Down RN provides care for patients transitioning from critical care. The position requires recent Step-Down experience. Ratios are 1:4 to 1:5. The unit typically handles diagnoses including Congestive Heart Failure and respiratory failure. Patients may present with conditions following heart catheterization and vascular procedures. Frequent vital sign and neurovascular checks are essential. Unit procedures include post-heart catheter care and monitoring. Management of drips and emergency medications is required. Candidates should possess skills in cardiac telemetry, phlebotomy, and isolation precautions. Experience with BiPAP, CPAP management, and blood product administration is needed. The unit is supported by an interdisciplinary team including respiratory services and social services. Normal daily census includes nine patients. Patients age groups include adults and geriatrics. Applicants must follow infection prevention protocols. Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are required, with exemptions allowed for medical and religious reasons. First-time travelers may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
