About the Position

Candidate must have at least 1 year of medical surgical experience at a large hospital (over 450 beds). Description: This position requires a registered nurse specializing in medical surgical nursing care. The nurse will manage a diverse patient population with various diagnoses, including chronic illnesses such as COPD, diabetes, CHF, and end-stage renal disease. They will also handle GI issues like pancreatitis and inflammatory bowel diseases, along with infections such as pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, and UTIs. Care will extend to patients with neurological issues, including strokes and traumatic brain injuries, and those facing mental health disorders like depression and anxiety. Procedures to be performed may include colonoscopies, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries. General job duties include assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication. The nurse will utilize electronic health records, IV pumps, wound vacs, and feeding tubes. Candidate will float to other medical units as needed. Patient ratios are generally 1:5-6. Floating may occur to areas with the greatest need. Dress code consists of Caribbean blue scrubs. Charting will be completed using Epic electronic records. Three weekend shifts will be required in a four-week period.
