Job Description Job Description About the Role: The Certified Hemo Technician plays a critical role in the healthcare system by performing hemodialysis treatments for patients with kidney failure or other renal conditions. This position requires the technician to operate and maintain dialysis equipment, monitor patients during treatment, and ensure adherence to safety and infection control protocols. The technician collaborates closely with nephrologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care and respond promptly to any complications. Additionally, the role involves educating patients about their treatment plans and providing emotional support throughout the dialysis process. Ultimately, the Certified Hemo Technician contributes to improving patient outcomes and quality of life through skilled and compassionate care. Minimum Qualifications: Certification as a Hemodialysis Technician from an accredited program. Valid state licensure or certification as required by the United States jurisdiction of employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Demonstrated knowledge of dialysis equipment operation and maintenance. Strong understanding of infection control and patient safety standards. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a clinical dialysis setting or hospital environment. Advanced certifications such as Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT). Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and documentation software. Additional certifications in patient care or phlebotomy. Strong communication and patient education skills. Responsibilities: Set up, operate, and monitor hemodialysis machines and related equipment according to prescribed treatment plans. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of dialysis equipment to ensure optimal functionality and patient safety. Monitor patients’ vital signs and overall condition during dialysis treatments, promptly identifying and addressing any adverse reactions or complications. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting treatment parameters, observations, and any incidents during dialysis sessions. Adhere strictly to infection control, safety protocols, and regulatory standards to minimize risks to patients and staff. Educate patients and their families about dialysis procedures, dietary restrictions, and lifestyle modifications to support treatment efficacy. Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate patient care and communicate any changes in patient status or treatment requirements. Skills: The Certified Hemo Technician utilizes technical skills daily to operate and maintain complex dialysis machinery, ensuring treatments are delivered safely and effectively. Attention to detail is critical when monitoring patient vital signs and documenting treatment data to detect any abnormalities early.
