- Serve as a cashier, operating the Point of Sale cash register system, collecting cash from customers, making exact change, and safe guarding cash according to established procedures.
- Help deliver loaded food carts to the hospital wards for meal service to the patients meeting meal delivery times in accordance with section standards.
- Manually or using mechanical equipment, wash heavy pots and pans, dishes, trays, and serviceware from the kitchen, dining room, catering functions and patient care units.
- Clean and sanitize dishroom and pot and pan areas to include countertops, dishwashing machine, dish racks, tray return, scrapping sinks floors, and pot and pan machine.
- Disassemble trays returned from dining area, and dispose of waste in accordance with established safety and sanitation procedures.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 55 pounds may be required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
- This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves moderate physical effort. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds, e.g., lifting individual dishes or trays in serving or cleaning tables; lifting trays or clean dishes. Lifts filled milk containers weighing up to 55 pounds to heights of three (3) feet. Is constantly standing and walking.
- WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in kitchen and dining areas. Steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well lighted, but usually noisy from food service activities and there is a danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped. Food service workers are regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezing units. Subject to prolonged periods of standing. Must abide by personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures such as wearing a hairnet or hat and a clean uniform daily.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

- This position may require wearing safety shoes.
- Incumbent may be required to obtain a Serve Safe Certification within 6 months of employment.
