Who We Are And What We Do The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (DMHSAS) is charged with planning for and promoting an array of services from prevention and early intervention to resiliency and recovery. The Department oversees four Regional Mental Health Institutes (RMHIs) and contracts with mental health and substance abuse community providers across the state to offer services to Tennesseans. The Department manages a budget of more than $300 million, with funding from dedicated fees, revenue, federal grants, and state general fund appropriations. Western Mental Health Institute (WMHI) is Tennessee's third largest State mental health hospital located in Bolivar Tennessee and has been serving 24 counties in West Tennessee since 1889. Hospitalizations are on a voluntary or involuntary basis, or patients can also be referred by the court system for pre-trail evaluations. The hospital offers 2 short-term care units, 4 long-term care units, and therapeutic treatment units for a total of 150 beds. Board Eligible $16,667.00 - $20,833.00 per month, $200,004.00 - $250,000.00 annually. Board Certified $18,334.00 - $22,500.00 per month, $220,008.00 - $270, 000.00 annually. Job Overview Psychiatrists work 8:00a to 4:30p; one (1) hour lunch; Monday-Friday. They are Head of a multi-disciplinary treatment team of an acute or sub-acute unit. They provide supervision for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, if applicable. Unless other assigned clinical duties prevent doing so, the physician shall be on his/her assigned unit during the morning hours in order to confer with other members of the patient treatment team concerning current clinical issues, review lab reports, consultations, and/or any other reports not previously reviewed by the physician, and as appropriate, shall take steps needed to address patient care issues related to these documents. The Physician conducts clinical reviews (rounds) during the morning hours routinely, allowing them to make the other core members of the treatment team aware of any change in the patient care deemed necessary, and allows for any changes in treatment deemed necessary to be implemented the same day. Key Responsibilities Lead Psychiatrist in an acute or sub-acute unit. Roles include, but not limited not, head of a treatment team, possible supervision of a psychiatric nurse practitioner, medication management, admissions, discharges, completing progress notes on a daily basis, and involvement with various hospital committees. A demonstrated working knowledge of persons with complex psychiatric and addiction issues and their families. Knowledge related to use of Electronic Clinical Record (ECR) and other computer usage, as needed. Proven skills in networking among a diverse group of agencies and organizations. Effective communication skills, including written and public speaking, and adept at dealing with people at various levels within the organization, as well as external stakeholders and leaders. Proven experience in successfully initiating and sustaining multi-agency and multi-community policy, system, and environmental change strategies. Minimum Qualifications Board Certified or Board Eligible Physician Psychiatrist. Four (4) Year Psychiatric Residency training from an accredited program. Licensed to practice medicine in TN / or willing to obtain license to practice medicine in TN prior to hire.
