Innovative Humanities Associate Faculty (Hybrid)

The Humanities department at Everett Community College includes Humanities, World Languages, Philosophy, Journalism, Global Studies, Creative Writing and Literature courses. This new interdisciplinary department serves students across the college in meeting Humanities distribution classes for the Direct Transfer Agreement (AAS-DTA), as well as students who are interested in focusing on these disciplines. Classes are held primarily hybrid or fully in-person. Examples of courses taught include: HUM& 101: Introduction to Humanities ENGL 120: Native American Literature TITLE: Humanities Associate Faculty SALARY: $19,015/quarter at 100% course load* DEPARTMENT: Humanities REPORTS TO: Associate Dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences POSITION NUMBER: InstructionalAssociate Faculty This position is eligible for hybrid work location, per Everett Community College’s Telework Policy *Courses vary in credits/load. For example, one 5 credit lecture course would be 33.33% course load, or $6,338.42/quarter. *Please review Appendix D (page 68) of the AFT Contract for full salary information *Additional compensation may be available for courses that meet high wage / high demand criteria Teaching - Foster an equitable, anti-racist, and culturally inclusive learning environment and demonstrate an awareness of the experiences and needs of the current student population - Develop curriculum, prepare, modify and deliver teaching/learning activities designed to maximize student learning and foster inclusive excellence. - Teach courses in accordance with the course record, course syllabus, approved student learning objectives, and quarterly course schedules. Design and/or deliver course assignments, learning activities and assessments that enable students to meet the course’s stated learning outcomes. - Develop a current course syllabus using the College’s inclusive syllabus template and submit it to the Instruction Office prior to the start of the quarter. - At the course level, assess student work using appropriate methodologies that promote further learning; at the department or program level; at the program or department level, disaggregate, review and assess student learning outcomes with the goal of continuous improvement and reduction of opportunity gaps. - Complete summative evaluations of student work during the College’s scheduled finals week; submit final grades by the designated deadline. - Create and maintain department and student records in accordance with college policies and procedures. - Refer students to college services, community agencies and other professionals as appropriate. - Establish, post, and maintain regularly scheduled office hours for consultation with students. Continuation of Professional Standards - Stay current in relevant best practices, emerging topics, and research. Participation in College Matters - Complete annual trainings as required by state and federal law and the College as identified by the College. Associate Faculty will be compensated for trainings required by the College. - Maintain certification and/or licensure required by the College in the performance of the faculty member’s assignment. Optional Duties - By mutual agreement, compensation may be available for participation in the following: - Opening week activities, meetings and professional development opportunities. - Faculty forum. - Annual graduation ceremony in June. - Serving on committees. - Department, division and college meetings and be involved in department, division and college matters. - Maintain regular office hours for consultation with students. - Advise students in their course selections, programs, and pathways. Reassigned Time - The leadership of the College has the right to assign faculty duties to faculty members. - Faculty may be assigned non-faculty duties including, but not limited to, administrative functions, leadership of college initiatives, or other specially assigned duties. Required Education and Experience: - Master’s Degree in Literature, Environmental Literature, Humanities, American Indian Studies, or related discipline - Experience teaching Environmental or Native American Literature or similar courses at the college level Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Ability to use a Learning Management System (such as Canvas or Blackboard) - Knowledge of classroom strategies for effectively facilitating learning for students from diverse backgrounds, including differences in culture, heritage, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, ability, class, and religion - Asset-based approach when interacting with students, faculty, and staff across the college - Ability to teach classes in person at our Everett campus Physical Requirements Everett Community College follows the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and provides the following information as a guideline for applicants: - Ability to operate office equipment, including computers, printers, and telecommunication devices. - Ability to observe, analyze, and interpret data from various sources. - Ability to prepare and present detailed reports, both in written and audible formats. - Ability to exchange information on the phone, through video conferencing, or in person. - Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing routine tasks. - Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
