Description

American Traveler is hiring a Long Term Acute Care RN with 3 years of experience for a 12-hour night shift position caring for medically complex and respiratory patients.

Details

Work on a float unit at a long term acute care campus with a medical, rehab, and respiratory focus.

Patient population includes 65% chronic vent/trach patients and 35% rehab-type patients including stroke, TBI, respiratory failure, and COPD.

Staffing ratios range from 1:5-8, averaging 6-7 patients per nurse.

24-bed unit size.

12-hour night shift from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

Every other weekend required.

Travelers will float first to like units at a sister campus, including Respiratory Care/Step Down (ratios D/E 1:9, N 1:12), Medically Complex Rehabilitation with cardiac monitoring (ratios D/E 1:7, N 1:9), and TBI/Medically Complex Chronic Care units (ratios D/E 1:7-10, N 1:12).

Not assigned to Pediatrics unless pedi-specific experience is noted.

Requirements

Active RN license (CT or Compact)

Minimum 3 years of RN experience required

Experience with respiratory/vented patients strongly preferred

Medical environment experience (not traditional Med/Surg) preferred

Willing to obtain flu vaccination or provide medical declination (personal/religious declinations not accepted)

Additional Information

Responsibilities include IV starts, medication drips, blood administration, EKGs, med titrations, glucose monitoring, wound vac changes, wound dressings and measurements, trach care, suctioning, straight cath and foley care, port access, and central line dressing changes.

Respiratory therapists manage ventilators; nurses do not manage vents directly.
