Construction Superintendent
Veritas Building Group
Veritas Building Group is a commercial general contractor focused on delivering high-quality construction with integrity, accountability, and exceptional client service. Our experience spans retail, restaurant, recreation, medical, corporate interiors, renovations, tenant improvements, and ground-up commercial construction. We believe successful projects are built through strong field leadership, clear communication, attention to detail, and a commitment to doing things right the first time. Position Overview Veritas Building Group is seeking an experienced Commercial Superintendent to lead day-to-day field operations for two Chicagoland projects and support future Veritas commercial construction projects. The Superintendent will serve as the primary Veritas representative on the jobsite and will be responsible for managing construction activities from mobilization through final completion and turnover. This is a hands-on field leadership position for an experienced commercial construction professional who can independently manage a project, coordinate multiple subcontractors and trades, maintain an aggressive construction schedule, enforce safety and quality standards, and communicate effectively with the project management team and client. Key Responsibilities Field Leadership & Project Execution Lead and manage all daily on-site construction activities Serve as Veritas Building Group's primary field representative and maintain a professional presence with the client, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, design professionals, and other project stakeholders. Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors, deliveries, equipment, and site personnel. Develop a clear understanding of the complete project scope, drawings, specifications, schedule, subcontractor responsibilities, and owner requirements prior to and throughout construction. Plan and coordinate daily and weekly construction activities to maintain project momentum. Lead subcontractors in the proper sequencing of work and ensure adequate manpower is available to meet project milestones. Identify field conflicts, scope gaps, constructability issues, and potential delays early and work with the Project Manager to develop solutions before they affect the project. Coordinate site logistics, material staging, deliveries, temporary facilities, waste removal, access, and jobsite security. Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and client-ready jobsite. Scheduling & Coordination Manage the field execution of the overall project schedule. Develop and maintain detailed short-term and two-week look-ahead schedules . Coordinate upcoming work with subcontractors and confirm manpower, materials, equipment, inspections, and information are available before work is scheduled to begin. Monitor daily progress against the schedule and immediately communicate potential delays or constraints to the Project Manager. Hold subcontractors accountable for schedule commitments and proactively develop recovery plans when necessary. Coordinate work around client operations, site restrictions, deliveries, inspections, and other project-specific requirements. Participate in project coordination meetings and provide accurate field updates regarding progress, schedule, manpower, upcoming activities, risks, and required decisions. Quality Control Ensure construction is completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, submittals, applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, and Veritas quality standards. Review project plans and specifications prior to installation and verify subcontractors understand their scope and installation requirements. Conduct regular jobsite walks to evaluate workmanship, progress, and compliance. Identify deficient or incomplete work and drive subcontractors to make corrections promptly. Review layout, critical dimensions, finishes, and key installation requirements before work progresses. Maintain a high level of attention to finish quality and final presentation. Manage punch-list activities aggressively and drive each project through final completion rather than allowing outstanding items to linger. Safety Maintain a safe jobsite and actively promote a strong safety culture. Enforce Veritas, OSHA, subcontractor, and project-specific safety requirements. Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and immediately address unsafe conditions or work practices. Coordinate required site orientations, toolbox talks, and safety meetings. Maintain required safety documentation and promptly report incidents to company leadership. Ensure all subcontractors maintain proper housekeeping and safe working conditions. Project Documentation Complete accurate daily reports Client or subcontractor discussions Maintain comprehensive daily progress photographs. Maintain current field drawings and project redlines for incorporation into final as-built documentation. Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, sketches, and other project information relevant to field execution. Document changed conditions and potential additional work before subcontractors proceed. Communicate potential change-order conditions immediately to the Project Manager. Maintain organized and accurate electronic project documentation. Inspections & Closeout Coordinate all required inspections with subcontractors, consultants, municipalities, and other authorities having jurisdiction. Verify work is complete and ready before requesting inspections. Track inspection deficiencies and ensure corrective work is completed promptly. Lead project punch-list completion and verify outstanding work before requesting client reinspection. Support collection of closeout documentation including warranties, as-built information, operation and maintenance documentation, and required certifications. Coordinate final inspections and turnover activities. Maintain ownership of the project through final completion, not simply substantial completion. Client & Team Communication Maintain open, timely, and professional communication with the Veritas Project Manager and company leadership. Provide clear and accurate updates regarding project status, schedule, upcoming activities, risks, subcontractor performance, and decisions needed. Develop productive relationships with clients while maintaining the appropriate contractor/client relationship. Represent Veritas Building Group professionally in every interaction. Communicate issues early. The expectation is no surprises for the client or Veritas project team. Demonstrate accountability and a solutions-oriented approach when challenges arise. Qualifications Required Minimum 5 years of experience as a Superintendent in commercial construction . Demonstrated experience independently managing commercial construction projects. Strong understanding of commercial construction means, methods, sequencing, and subcontractor coordination. Experience coordinating multiple construction trades Ability to read and interpret architectural, civil, structural, MEP, and construction drawings and specifications. Strong understanding of construction schedules and trade sequencing. Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractors and hold project teams accountable for commitments. Strong knowledge of commercial construction quality-control practices. Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and commercial jobsite safety. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to complete detailed daily reports and maintain organized project documentation. Proficiency with common construction technology, project management platforms, email, spreadsheets, photographs, and electronic drawings. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to assigned project locations. Ability to work flexible hours when project conditions require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or other schedule adjustments. Preferred Experience with commercial renovation, tenant improvement, retail, restaurant, recreation, hospitality, or similar fast-paced commercial projects. Experience completing projects within active or operational facilities. Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, or comparable construction-management platforms. OSHA 30 certification. First Aid/CPR certification. What We're Looking For The right Superintendent for Veritas is more than someone who watches the work happen. We are looking for someone who owns the jobsite . That means someone who: Plans ahead instead of reacting. Understands the drawings and scope. Holds subcontractors accountable while maintaining productive relationships. Communicates issues early and clearly. Maintains a safe, organized, professional jobsite. Understands that the client's experience matters as much as the finished product. Takes personal accountability for commitments and results. Physical Requirements The position requires regular work in an active commercial construction environment and may include prolonged standing and walking, climbing ladders and stairs, navigating uneven surfaces, bending, lifting, and working in indoor and outdoor conditions. Why Join Veritas Building Group Veritas is building a company around experienced people who want to take ownership of their work and have a meaningful impact on the projects they lead. We value: Integrity — We do what we say we are going to do. Accountability — We take ownership of the outcome. Communication — We address issues early and eliminate surprises.
