Remote work is not an option. Co-Lab on U Street, a new kind of co-working facility set to open in September 2026, is hiring a Community Manager. This property is a hub for progressive movement collaboration and community-building and the right fit for this role will blend traditional facility management with social impact. We imagine a vibrant ecosystem that fosters good work, open conversations, and serendipitous connections. You will manage the daily operations of a co-working community. Your goal is to create a functional workspace with the resources, technology, and security for changemakers, grassroots organizations, and social innovators to collaborate, host meetings, and maximize their social impact. As the Community Manager you will be the point person for all building operations, and you will manage a team of two people. Your duties will include operations management, sales & marketing, community management, and staff management. Operations Management Handle billing and documentation, using workspace software to manage subsidies, member accounts, and space utilization records. Manage monthly operational budget. Provide monthly reports on benchmarks, goals, and revenue. Oversee the Facility Manager on all issues related to vendors, structural needs, and day-to-day building concerns. Manage building maintenance and capital improvements budget. Coordinate with the Facilities Manager to approve any repairs or structural needs/build a maintenance calendar. Develop a monthly budget tracker for staff to track ongoing expenses and maintain a monthly allocated budget. Sales and Marketing Facilitate tours as needed. Follow up with potential leads for event and office space rentals. Review member applications & event inquiries alongside leadership to ensure incoming individuals or groups align with our core social mission. Maintain up-to-date information on the Co-Lab website and in promotional materials. Community Management Cultivate an inclusive community and ensure the space feels welcoming, equitable, and accessible to diverse community groups. Oversee the Events & Logistics Coordinator and support the success of event space rentals, ongoing member engagement and assist as needed. Uphold a vibrant and collaborative atmosphere and encourage member interaction and networking, including a minimum of one member event per month led by the Events & Logistics Coordinator. Resolve disputes between building members and address individual concerns. Lead all on-/off-boarding of members. Bottom-line responsibility for the security of staff, members, and visitors within the space. Foster an environment that infuses art and culture into the programming of the building. Staff Management Manage two staff members (Facility Manager; Events & Logistics Coordinator); direct staff’s daily workflows and provide ongoing coaching and professional development rooted in Co-Lab’s core values. Approve scheduling and payroll, and manage shift coverages to optimize operational efficiency. Coordinate with IT consultant for server or larger tech needs within the space. Coordinate with Legal, Finance, and HR Operations as needed. Qualifications Five years of experience managing a co-working space; the ideal candidate will bring a self-starter mindset and a proven capacity to manage efficiently within a lean budget. Deep commitment to social justice and ability to balance the responsibilities related to managing the facility and cultivating an inclusive community that honors the inherent worth and dignity of all building members and staff. Exemplary interpersonal skills—emotional intelligence, active listening skills, and the ability to connect with diverse stakeholders. Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks efficiently, and proactively solve problems. Empathetic approach to leadership and supervision with a focus on employee retention and morale. Ability to foster and maintain a collaborative, positive community atmosphere, including the ability to de-escalate member disputes quickly and professionally. Travel Requirements: N/A Location: In-person daily in Washington, DC Physical Requirements: In person, five days a week from 8:30am-5pm. Ability to perform heavy computer use, ability to lift 20 lbs, some evenings and weekends work required.
