Maintenance Technician / Boat Repair “Jack of All Trades”

We’re looking for a hands-on, resourceful maintenance tech who can keep our boats, facilities, and equipment in top shape. If you’re the person everyone calls when something needs fixing — mechanical, electrical, or “mystery rattle on the port side” — this job is for you.

What you’ll do

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on boats: engines, fuel systems, steering, electrical, bilge pumps, plumbing, and onboard electronics.
• Diagnose and repair fiberglass/gelcoat, hull fittings, hardware, and decking; handle bottom prep, paint, and zincs.
• Tackle general facilities work light carpentry, basic electrical, plumbing, pressure washing, dock repairs, painting, and grounds.
• Launch/retrieve, haul, block, and safely move vessels; assist with rigging, winterization, and commissioning.
• Maintain shop tools and parts inventory, track work orders, and document repairs.
• Respond to urgent issues and get things safely back in service with minimal downtime.
• Work independently, prioritize effectively, and communicate clear status updates.

What you bring

• 3+ years in marine maintenance, boatyard, marina, or similar hands-on repair environment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude: small engines/diesels, 12V DC and basic AC systems, fuel and cooling troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with fiberglass/epoxy work, sealants/fasteners, corrosion prevention, and marine coatings.
• Comfortable using multimeters, torque wrenches, sanders, polishers, and common shop tools.
• Ability to read manuals/schematics and follow safety protocols.
• Problem-solver mindset: you diagnose, improvise, and finish the job right.
• Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, work in confined spaces and outdoors in varying weather.
• Valid driver’s license; forklift/hoist experience a plus. ABYC/NMEA knowledge or certifications are a bonus.

Nice-to-haves

• Outboard and inboard service experience (Yamaha/Mercury/Volvo/Yanmar, etc.).
• Gelcoat color-matching and cosmetic repair.
• Trailer maintenance, wiring, and brakes.
• Basic welding or fabrication.
• Customer-facing experience (walkthroughs, estimates).

Schedule and pay

• Full-time; occasional weekends/after-hours during peak season.
• Competitive hourly pay based on experience, plus overtime opportunities.
