About the Role American Engineering is seeking an experienced and motivated Hydraulics Engineer to join our growing Charlotte team. This role is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer with a strong background in hydraulic modeling, stormwater management, drainage design, and transportation-related hydraulics. The successful candidate will lead complex projects, provide technical guidance, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative infrastructure solutions throughout the Southeast. Responsibilities Lead the planning, analysis, and design of hydraulic and hydrologic systems for transportation, municipal, and land development projects. Perform drainage studies, stormwater management analyses, floodplain evaluations, and hydraulic modeling. Develop and review construction plans, specifications, technical reports, and engineering calculations. Utilize industry-standard software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, ICPR, PondPack, StormCAD, and related modeling tools. Coordinate with project managers, clients, regulatory agencies, and internal design teams. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on project delivery. Support project pursuits, client development activities, and proposal preparation. Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with applicable regulations and design standards. Qualifications Required: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina or ability to obtain NC licensure through reciprocity. 8+ years of experience in hydraulic and hydrologic engineering. Demonstrated experience using HEC-RAS and other hydraulic/hydrologic modeling software such as HEC-HMS, HY-8, ICPR, StormCAD, PondPack, GeoHECRAS, or similar tools. Experience performing floodplain analyses, bridge and culvert hydraulics, stormwater management studies, and drainage design. Skills Strong understanding of NCDOT, FEMA, and local drainage and stormwater regulations. Excellent technical writing, communication, and project management skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
