FOOD SERVICE WORKER/CASHIER (PART TIME)

Job Summary We are hiring immediately for part‑time FOOD SERVICE WORKER/CASHIER positions at Elk Rapids Schools (707 East Third Street, Elk Rapids, MI 49629) on a school‑schedule (Monday‑Friday, variable hours). The pay range is $16.50–$17.00 per hour. Uniforms (shirts and shoes) are provided. The role offers a flexible schedule and is suitable for parents of students. An internal employee referral bonus is available. Responsibilities Perform prep work such as washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding fruits and vegetables; weigh and measure ingredients. Carry pans, kettles, and trays between stations, stove, and refrigerator following safety standards; distribute supplies, utensils, and portable equipment. Store foods according to wrapping, dating, and food‑safety rotation procedures. Clean work areas, equipment, and utensils. Ensure compliance with sanitation and safety requirements. Use approved recipes and production standards to maintain quality, serving temperature, and portion control. Serve customers efficiently and courteously following service steps. Interact with customers and resolve complaints in a friendly, service‑oriented manner. Relay relevant information to supervisors. Perform sales transactions and enter sales into the cash register. Handle cash, make change, accept declining balance cards, and issue receipts. Follow procedures for issuing cash refunds. Manage change funds and cash drawer to meet overage/shortage standards. Replenish condiments, beverages, and supplies while maintaining cleanliness of service area. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Prior food service or kitchen experience preferred. Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Availability to work a school‑based schedule with potential unpaid periods during academic breaks. Customer‑service orientation and basic math skills.
