Summary

 

The Logistics Specialist supports the supply chain operations by managing end-to-end transportation and logistics activities. This role is critical to ensuring the efficient, cost-effective, and compliant movement of materials between suppliers, plants, and customers. The position partners closely with internal stakeholders and external carriers to support reliable service and continuous improvement across logistics operations.

 

Essential Job Functions

 

  • Build, dispatch, track, and trace freight shipments from load creation through final delivery.
  • Monitor shipment performance and proactively communicate exceptions or delays to stakeholders.
  • Analyze logistics data trends including lane costs, load weights, multi-stop opportunities, and carrier performance.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service and compliance standards.
  • Select cost-efficient carriers and routes while ensuring compliance with weight, regulatory, and safety requirements.
  • Support carrier performance management and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate and build strong relationships with plants, tollers, and internal customers to align transportation activities with production and customer requirements.
  • Contribute to maintaining a preferred shipper reputation through professional and effective coordination.
  • Maintain accurate logistics and transportation data in applicable systems.
  • Facilitate freight invoice settlement and assist with dispute resolution.
  • Support Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) initiatives related to logistics operations.
  • Assist with carrier onboarding, compliance verification, and safety requirements as needed.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

 

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

 

Minimum Requirements

  •   Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of experience handling responsibilities comparable to those outlined above, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1+ year in transportation service, transportation management, customer service, or client management
  • Prior experience working in an industrial environment

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of transportation and logistics principles, including freight movement, load building, routing, and delivery tracking
  • Working knowledge of inventory control systems, (e.g., SAP, CMMS/EAM) platforms, and purchasing workflows
  • Working knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS), logistics platforms, and standard freight documentation and invoicing processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, including the ability to analyze and interpret data in Excel
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments and different levels of the organization
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload
  • Commitment to safety, quality work, and continuous improvement
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to review logistics data, identify trends, and support cost optimization initiatives
  • Ability to identify problems, evaluate options, and implement practical solutions in a fast-paced environment

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to safely and successfully perform the essential functions of this job consistent with federal, state, and local standards, including meeting productivity standards.

 

  • Regular standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout the shift
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods, communicate effectively, and visually review data, reports, and electronic information
  • Primarily office-based work with regular use of computers, phones, and standard office equipment
  • Exposure to industrial conditions such as noise, dust, and temperature variations
