Aerospace Engineering ManagerWork Arrangement: Onsite role at the Tampa, FL Office with potential travel to testing sites as needed. Periods of development may require long irregular hours around deadlines, weekends, and some holidays and in-field test environments.Job Overview: As an Aerospace engineering manager within AEVEX Aerospace, you will be responsible for the supervision, development and tasking of a group of engineers who share your specific discipline. Managers share a mixed roll within AEVEX as many are also valuable contributors to project goals within their discipline. Working across projects, managers ensure that the right engineers are solving the right problems for specific programs and projects. Managers need to be experts in their field and have a passion for the hiring and development of engineers at all levels within their careers. This includes mentoring, training, and assignments, as well as performance reviews and career advancement. This position is specifically for an aerospace engineering manager with experience in designing aerospace and defense systems. You will lead a team of approximately 10-20 highly competent engineers that are hungry for advancements in their technology spaces.Essential Functions:Designs, implements, and refines product development, testing, and manufacturing processes.Supervise and manage assignments and career development of assigned staff.Leads teams in the development of new products, solutions, and processes.Oversees and contributes to project logistics and resource allocation.Strives to improve efficiency and sustainability of processes and product designs, and to reduce waste.Secures the resources needed for teams to excel, including researching and proposing capital investments.Helps to create and oversee project budgets and engages in cost management strategies.Attends trade shows and conferences and makes site visits to suppliers' facilities.Advocates on behalf of team members by securing adequate resources for success.Communicates technical information to non-technical stakeholders, including investors, senior management and potential customers.Maintains high-level expertise in their field or sector.Assures that processes meet quality and safety compliance guidelines.Collaborates with other team leaders and departments.Forges and maintains relationships with suppliers and customers.Perform other duties as required.Regular and reliable attendance on a full time basis [or in accordance with posted schedule].Responsible for exhibiting professional behavior with both internal and external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company's policies and practices.Embodies AEVEX's cultural values and aligns daily actions with department goals and company culture.Qualifications and Competencies:Strong personnel and project management skillsExpert-level knowledge of aerospace and mechanical engineering technology and processesStrong strategic thinking, critical thinking, and problem-solving skillsStrong background in SOLIDWORKS CAD design, 3D printing, payloads, propulsion, and mechanical systemsFlexible thinking, including the ability to pivot and try new approaches when faced with challengesStrong organizational, planning, and documentation skillsProficiency in using presentation software to explain complex information to non-technical management personnel and other stakeholdersStrong ability to work on multiple projects in various stages simultaneouslyStrong knowledge in Jira, Confluence, and MS ProjectLeadership Competencies:Directs and provides expert knowledge in the day-to-day function of the department.Identifies, recruits, and retains top-notch talent.Champions AEVEX's culture and empowers employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals.Coaches, mentors, engage and develop the team, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and learning opportunities.Sets performance standards and encourages employee engagement and results through delegation, continuous feedback, goal setting, and performance management.Maintains transparent communication.Provides oversight and direction to the employees in accordance with AEVEX's policies and procedures.Strong experience in establishing goals, KPPs, selecting tools, and establishing processesStrong experience in government contracts and understanding of job assignments, budgets, and taskingsExperience in writing basis of estimates and proposalsEducation / Certifications:BS in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or other applicable degree requiredMaster's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering preferredExperience:10+ years of experience in Aerospace or Mechanical engineering or other related discipline.4+ years of leadership or management experience in a technical role.Experience using SOLIDWORKS computer-aided design (CAD) platforms or equivalentExperience using Confluence and JIRA software toolsPhysical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
