Medical Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists in the delivery of primary pediatric health services and pediatric patient care management in a clinical setting for physicians and mid-level practitioners (Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician's Assistants) as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (includes but not limited to):

1. Warmly welcome patients and families, escorting them to exam rooms with professionalism and care.
2. Perform screening tests as trained through education and experience.
3. Prepare patients for examinations and treatments, including recording patient histories, current status, and vital signs.
4. Initiate and document patient visits in the electronic medical record system, completing all necessary documentation as directed by healthcare providers.
5. Answer incoming calls, manage voicemail messages, respond to provider-directed inquiries, and refer callers to appropriate staff members.
6. Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments, supplies, and medications to ensure readiness for procedures.
7. Assist physicians with procedures, including giving injections, applying dressings, and other clinical tasks as required.
8. Administer injections, apply dressings, assist physicians with procedures, and perform diagnostic lab tests as required.
9. Participate in patient education, teaching, and counseling to promote adherence to provider instructions and support overall well-being.
10. Assist with scheduling tests, treatments, and follow-up appointments to facilitate efficient patient flow.
11. Order, maintain, and monitor inventory of clinical supplies and equipment to ensure availability and proper functioning.

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

• Knowledge of organization policies, procedures, and healthcare systems
• Understanding of medical practices and pediatric patient care protocols
• Familiarity with examination, diagnostic, and treatment procedures specific to pediatrics
• Proficiency with medical equipment, medications, and instruments used in pediatric care
• Awareness of safety hazards and best practices to maintain a safe clinical environment
• Strong skills in assisting with treatments across diverse settings
• Competence in computer applications, including Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Microsoft Office Suite
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff, physicians, and patients
• Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations

Requirements

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate from an accredited program for medical assistant or nursing, with certification from a recognized national organization.
• Pediatrics and physician office experience a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and hand-eye coordination.
• Involves standing and walking.
• Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports.
• Requires occasional lifting and supporting patients of any weight.
• Requires exposure to bodily fluids.

WORKING CONDITIONS (environment and safety):

• Work performed in an office environment.
• Involves frequent contact with professional staff and managed care organizations.
• Work may be stressful at times.
• Interaction with others is frequent and often disruptive.
