This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Traveling Construction Project Manager based in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to manage complex, multimillion-dollar energy efficiency and renewable construction projects across Illinois and Indiana. You will oversee construction activities from final design through successful implementation, balancing technical execution, financial performance, schedules, and customer expectations. Working closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and site teams, you will help deliver projects safely, efficiently, and on budget. The position combines field leadership with project administration, forecasting, cost management, and customer relationship management. You will contribute to projects that improve energy efficiency, resilience, and sustainability for public, institutional, government, and commercial customers. Regular travel to project sites is an important part of this position.

Accountabilities

• Provide daily construction, administrative, and technical management for energy efficiency and renewable construction projects.
• Support Senior Project Managers with project accounting, budgeting, scheduling, reporting, quality management, internal communications, and overall project coordination.
• Maintain compliance with financial policies, project setup requirements, revenue recognition procedures, and applicable administrative processes.
• Serve as a key customer contact, managing relationships, service expectations, communications, and contractual obligations throughout project delivery.
• Support engineering and development activities, including project scope definition, subcontractor selection, cost estimation, installation planning, and scheduling.
• Monitor project performance, costs, forecasts, and expenditures to identify variances and ensure projects remain aligned with approved plans and financial expectations.
• Review subcontractor and vendor bids to evaluate scope, schedules, pricing, material availability, equipment requirements, and construction services.
• Coordinate vendors and subcontractors to maintain quality, schedule adherence, cost control, and customer satisfaction.
• Directly manage assigned construction managers and site supervisors, providing oversight to ensure safe, timely, and high-quality project execution.
• Maintain project schedules, monitor critical-path activities, track outstanding items, and provide detailed two-week look-ahead schedules to support customer coordination.
• Assist with job-cost accounting, including documentation, approvals, payment reporting, monthly forecasting, expenditure tracking, and reconciliation.
• Ensure compliance with company, industry, customer, OSHA, jurisdictional, and other applicable safety standards, codes, and practices.
• Travel regularly to assigned project sites in support of construction activities and project delivery.
• Perform additional project and construction management responsibilities as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; education or coursework in engineering, construction, technical disciplines, or a related industry is preferred.
• At least 5 years of construction project management experience, preferably involving complex or large-scale projects.
• Experience managing multiple priorities, coordinating diverse stakeholders, and maintaining positive relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
• Knowledge of construction project management practices, mechanical and electrical systems, engineering processes, applicable regulations, and industry codes.
• Strong understanding of OSHA safety standards and the ability to promote safe construction practices across project sites.
• Experience with energy efficiency technologies such as direct digital energy controls, variable frequency drives, high-efficiency motors, central plant chiller and boiler installations, lighting retrofits, renewable energy systems, or related solutions is preferred.
• Strong financial and analytical skills, including experience with project budgets, cost forecasting, expenditures, schedules, and performance tracking.
• Excellent verbal, written, technical communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage schedules, critical-path activities, documentation, and multiple concurrent priorities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project or comparable project-management software.
• Ability to review confidential U.S. security information.
• Valid driver's license in good standing issued by the candidate's resident state.
• Willingness and ability to travel as required to project sites.

• Competitive base salary range of $92,000–$134,000, with actual compensation based on factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, location, and internal equity.
