Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Med/Surg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum one (1) year of relevant nursing experience License: Illinois state RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: - Nursing Process - Patient Assessment - Plan of Care - Nursing Interventions - Patient Care Procedures Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients by utilizing the nursing process and adhering to nursing trends, technology, and available resources. Responsibilities and duties are performed in alignment with the institution's philosophy. Key Functions include: Performing all responsibilities specific to the scope of service. Implementing procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for the healthcare team. Completing an initial assessment upon patient admission and developing an appropriate plan of care based on patient and family needs. Implementing the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifying the plan of care based on continuous evaluation. Taking responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicating with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues. Offering constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and collaborating with colleagues to expand the knowledge base. Identifying personal learning needs and taking the initiative to begin appropriate solutions. Fulfilling all requirements of departmental competencies. Department Specific Functions include: Receiving patient Bedside Shift Report from an RN at the beginning of each shift. Ensuring the inclusion of patient input and visual validation of a safe patient room environment at the time of shift change. Updating the patient communication board found in each patient room. Delegating patient care tasks to assigned team members and validating the completion of delegated tasks throughout the shift. Completing and documenting basic RN patient care activities such as assessments and interpretation of vital signs. Ensuring physician order completion, admission/discharge of patients, and hourly rounding on each assigned patient. Meeting documentation standards for each assigned patient. Providing patient medications utilizing the five Rights of medication administration: Right Patient, Right Medication, Right Route, Right Dose, and Right Time. Maintaining patient safety as the highest priority by ensuring compliance with safety measures such as fall precautions and pressure ulcer prevention. Promoting a positive environment that supports both a healthy work environment and a healing patient environment. Responding promptly to patient call lights to ensure effective triage and completion of patient requests. Using critical thinking to evaluate overall patient conditions and utilizing nursing judgment to identify and act on changes in patient status. Communicating effectively within the healthcare team to promote collaboration, effective patient care coordination, and patient safety. Managing time effectively to facilitate the quick admission and discharge processes for patients.
