Temporary 2nd Shift Production Supervisor

Position Summary

The 2nd Shift Production Supervisor is accountable for leading and coordinating daily packaging operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality processing of potatoes with on-time delivery. 

Day-to-day focus includes all aspects of production assignments in support of established initiatives including team development and training, retention, improved efficiency and productivity, task delegation & prioritization, and staffing schedules while ensuring an overall positive impact on profit margin. The Production Supervisor is a resource for resolving any production, machine, or quality issues that may arise.

The Production Supervisor will work in various production assignments in the plant throughout the shift and is accountable to develop, refine, manage, implement, and verify standard operating procedures and standards.  

This role will train on 1st shift beginning August 1 and transition to 2nd shift for September 1 through approximately December 1. 

Qualifications  

• High school graduate or equivalent 
• Five years production manufacturing experience preferred
• Driver’s License with an Acceptable Driving Record
• Supervisory skills highly preferred
Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred 
• Demonstrated ability to use various technology platforms such as Microsoft Office Programs including Email, Excel, and Word and be able to document information in the electronic time and attendance system

Accountabilities

1. Ensures a safe environment, operational efficiency, production and equipment readiness, quality, storage, performance management, and team training relating to the grading, automation, and the shipping/receiving process.
2. Daily Direction: Provides hands on oversight and clear and informed direction for the team regarding daily work plans in accordance with the production plan and in alignment with the Plant Manager's directives. 
3. Ensures adequate daily staffing and adjusts team members work assignments each shift as needed.
4. Plan Adjustments: Provides proactive and in-the-moment adjustments to the daily plan (breakdowns, customer changes etc.), which are communicated effectively to the plant operations team. This communication is extended daily to the Plant Manager in regards to significant plan adjustments, productivity concerns, quality concerns, or team member performance.
5. Training: Identifies gaps and trains new and current team members on the safe and productive use of plant equipment, tasks and the proper use of technology related to the equipment. Ensures regular check in’s with staff members. 
6. Real-Time Decisions: Analyzes situations in real-time and makes decisions or adjustments that keep the work environment safe.
7. Quality Focus: Adheres to quality standards, procedures, and sustainability goals, while concentrating on lowering costs and increasing efficiency.
8. Technology Leadership: Leads by example with the adoption and use of technology, as well as the associated data that is used in the continuous improvement efforts of the operation. Ensures accuracy of data by focusing on process and discovery of root cause when data errors are identified.
9. Timecard Oversight: Reviews timecards and approves them, ensuring the information matches actual work completed by team members.
10. Plant Equipment Operation: Operates equipment and tools within the scope of their safe intended use. Works in various production work assignments throughout the shift including but not limited to machine operation, grading, cleaning, packaging support and ticket station.
11. Equipment Maintenance: Inspects equipment and may troubleshoot machinery breakdowns on the floor. Coordinates repairs needed with the maintenance team when the situation requires.
12. Develops, refines, manages, implements, and verifies operational standards.
13. Ensuring all quality standards and procedures and followed including Standard Operating Procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices.
14. Documents and follows up on any incidents that occur in the department.
15. Based on shift, will be responsible for the opening and locking of the plant doors and ensure a safe shut down of equipment
16. Communicates key information to the Plant Manager about daily activities on progress vs plan.
17. Addresses and manages all employee concerns and performance issues as they arise through partnership with the Human Resources Team.
18. Provides direction and improvement strategies for manufacturing, distribution, and supply chain processes.
19. Attends regular plant leadership meetings and provides weekly metrics for area of oversight that includes labor metrics and operational efficiency. 
20. Provides team member feedback and tracking via the performance review program.
21. Provides a positive message about and builds positive inter-relations among team members serving as a mediator or elevating concerns to the senior plant leader to help retain talent by respecting team members, teaching and providing constructive feedback for improvement, impromptu training and guidance
22. Safety Knowledge:  Maintains a strong knowledge base on the safe and efficient use of agricultural equipment, agricultural technology, and agronomic application best practices.
23. Safety Leadership: Supports and practices Wysocki Safety Initiatives and Lead Safe programs.
24. ( Senior Production Supervisor only ) Schedules order with customer giving a five-day rolling forecast of production capacities. 
25. ( Senior Production Supervisor only ) Leads daily customer interaction meetings and production scheduling huddles in absence of Plant Manager. 

Physical Activities/Demands : 

This position involves a moderate level of walking while tending to various machines in the production line. Ability to react quickly to product jams and machine malfunctions is necessary.

This position requires the ability to: ascend/descend various types of ladders and stairs; move oneself into different positions in various environments (sometimes tight); bend, stoop, squat and kneel; reach for product; walk moderate distances on concrete floors; lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds; communicate with others via voice, listening and verbal response; read and write to receive instruction, document work and heed safety warnings; repeat motions with the wrists, hands and fingers; operate machinery and digital controls; visually inspect work in near/distant scenarios including need for peripheral vision and depth perception.

Environmental Conditions : Physical activities are performed in temperature controlled indoor environments which could include…noisy environments; slippery and wet floor conditions, exposure to regulated chemicals; dusty or poorly ventilated environments.
