Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Technologist

Job Purpose & Position Overview: To perform laboratory testing for WCHS laboratory. This position is a 7 on 7 off position working Wednesday-Tuesday on your week to work. Shift is 7 AM to 7:30 PM. This position will be Every Other Weekend during the week you work. Holidays will be worked if it is your scheduled shift week. Overtime is earned at >80 hours a pay period. THIS POSITION WILL REQUIRE THE ABILITY TO MANAGE WORKFLOW WHILE WORKING INDEPENDENTLY ON WEEKENDS & HOLIDAYS. MULTITASKING, ABILITY TO ADJUST PRIORITIES AND RESPONDING TO CODES & TRAUMAS IS ESSENTIAL. Skilled at specimen acquisition. Ability to work independently is required. Certification is also required. Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate the Winnebago Tribe's core mission, vision, and values
• Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the MT/MLT provides technical support by performing analyses, tests, and procedures that assist in the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of diseases.
• Accessioning/ordering tests in the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and processing specimens with referral to the reference laboratories.
• Operates, maintains, and calibrates the equipment used to ensure it is operating efficiently and providing accurate results
• Performs basic troubleshooting as needed
• Maintain documentation according to regulatory agencies and write laboratory policies and procedures.
• Exposure to infectious clinical specimens on a regular basis, so adherence to sterilization and infection control procedures is required.
• This position is responsible for using his/her skill, accuracy, proficiency and dedication to work in all laboratory sections performing analytical testing on patients specimens.
• Candidate must demonstrate excellent customer service skills. Candidate must be comfortable with routine phlebotomy.

Qualifications/Skills:

• Medical Laboratory Technician Must have graduated from an approved school of Medical Technology/Laboratory Science with an Associate's degree and be certified/registered by one of the following agencies: MLT(ASCP), MLT(AMT), CLT(NCA).
• Medical Technologist Must have graduated from an approved school of Medical Technology/Laboratory Science with a bachelor's degree and be certified/registered by one of the following agencies: MT(ASCP), MT(AMT), CLS(NCA).
• Minimum of one year of experience preferred.
• Knowledge of hospital laboratory practices, including infection control requirements, chemical and biological hazards.
• Knowledge of governmental and regulating policies and standards.

Physical Requirements:

• Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
• Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.

• Above average social interaction skills
• Reasoning/Analysis
• Works with minimal to no supervision. Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities when situations change.

Language Requirements:

• Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:

• All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check. Applicants must be certified by a Medical Laboratory Certification Agency (ASCP,AMT NCA)
