Development Specialist - Grants

The Development Specialist - Grants is responsible for grant writing, including research and identification of prospective funders, with the purpose of generating grant revenue to support the mission of Tommy Nobis Center. This role will identify, define, and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities. The role will coordinate the development, writing and submission of grant proposals to diverse sources of grant funding, including foundation, corporations, and government entities. The Development Specialist - Grants is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting program data and outcomes to support grant reporting, demonstrate program effectiveness, and comply with funder requirements. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

1. Generates revenue for Tommy Nobis Center programs and services through timely submission of thoroughly researched, professionally written, and well-documented grant proposals.
2. Works closely with the Director, Development to design and implement comprehensive grants budget in support of overall Development goals and metrics.
3. Researches and identifies public and private grant opportunities including but not limited to government, corporate, foundations and private funding prospects.
4. Assesses grant potential/viability and works with the Director, Development in prioritizing response efforts.
5. Works closely with Programs staff to effectively communicate program budgets, metrics, and objectives to potential funders through comprehensive proposal submissions.
6. Ensures proposals and grant applications are submitted in a thorough and timely manner including all required supporting documentation.
7. Collaborates with Director, Accounting and other Grants staff to track grant expenses, manage change requests and conduct grant reimbursement and reporting activities.
8. Updates donor/foundation information in the donor management system (Blackbaud).
9. Prepares, edits, and monitors all grant submissions, and manages the submission progress from initiation to completion, ensuring all critical timelines are met.
10. Coordinates and implements funder cultivation and stewardship activities to support long-term funding partnerships.
11. Builds, maintains, and acts upon an annual grant calendar with key due dates, timelines, and deliverables.
12. Cross-collaboration with organizational staff in the composition and writing of required reporting to government, corporate, foundation, and other funders.
13. Other relevant duties as assigned in support of meeting department goals.

Experience and Skills Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Public Administration, or a related field; nonprofit experience preferred. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. Prior Experience: Minimum three years of demonstrated experience independently researching, developing, and writing grant proposals in a nonprofit setting. Demonstrated success in securing grant awards. Proficiency in managing the full grant lifecycle and maintaining grant data within a CRM system. Experience in government grant writing preferred. Deadline driven and results oriented, with the ability to take direction well and apply feedback. Strong organization and planning skills, including project management and coordination. Proficient in interpreting and analyzing diverse data. Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems and/or other donor tracking software. Must pass drug screen and background check. Eligibility to work in the United States. Written Communications: Strong writing skills to create and prepare professional quality documentation and to effectively communicate with a broad range of individuals. Oral Communications: Ability to communicate and present information informally and formally to supporters and potential supporters of Tommy Nobis Center’s strategic objectives. Organizational: Ability to organize data, as well as workloads and work schedules. Good attendance is expected; occasional overtime might be needed. Works under the direction of the Director of Development, with significant responsibility for working independently. Work is primarily performed in an office environment.
