Assistant Restaurant Manager

In addition to financial reward, work should be rewarding emotionally. We are seeking a hospitality enthusiast to be our next Assistant Manager at our Paia, HI location! The Assistant Manager oversees and supports all operations within the building, upholding Flatbread Company’s values and consistently applying our philosophies, while adhering to compliance expectations and administrating internal policies and procedures. Leadership/Planning/Management Participate in, plan, organize and assist in development of all restaurant initiatives, new approaches and strategies. Provide leadership, mentoring, coaching and direction to team members, ensuring that goals, objectives and standards are met in operations, sanitation, training, staff rapport, community outreach, and repairs and maintenance. Participate in regular meetings including management, staff, quarterly and annual meetings as necessary. Activities/Tasks Utilize your shared Outlook calendar and task list to communicate and schedule meetings, benefits, tasks and projected completion dates. Attend and participate in weekly management meetings with each member on your management team as well as a templated agenda completed to review with RM. Review all details in weekly meeting agenda prior to meetings and keep notes for each meeting. Review daily manager checklist, emails, guest feedback, and daily POS email reports. Respond and inform as needed. Review labor forecast weekly and assist with team member hiring and scheduling. Review Mystery Shops, comment and provide feedback as appropriate. Communicate company updates and information with team members. Maintain proper protocol in all communications which include upward communications, collaborations and subordinate communications. Review all new hire information/documents and present to General Manager on a weekly basis. Assist General Manager and Kitchen Manager with performance reviews to be sure they are scheduled, completed and followed-up on for hourly personnel. Ensure proper Flatbread disciplinary and termination policies and procedures are being followed. Collaborate with HR on terminations or other disciplinary investigations. Participate in 360-degree evaluations once per year and follow through on action steps agreed to by your General Manager. Submit all expense reports with proper and requested details as outlined by Flatbread Company procedures. Forward and discuss all Food and Beverage menu requests to General Manager. Maintain and advance local purchasing, composting and recycling procedures. Assist General Manager with planning of Community Bakes, donations and community outreach. Facilitate training process for all team members, adhering to the Flatbread Company training and testing protocols. Execute daily reconciliation of cash receipts, sales deposits and checkbook management. Review P&L statement and strategize with General Manager on how to improve the financial management of the business using established processes and procedures on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. This will include but not be limited to making sure that each member of the team has a friendly, positive attitude when they are working in the restaurant, ensuring that team members follow the Flatbread Company handbook, and keeping the restaurant properly appointed with artwork, plants, flowers and other approved objects that help make Flatbread a unique place to dine. Job Qualifications/Requirements High school degree or equivalent in education and experience. Some college or degree preferred. At least 2-4 years of combined restaurant and supervisory experience preferred. In-depth knowledge of guest service, cost management, safety, sanitation, product preparation, legal compliance, and personnel development. Able to lead and inspire people towards successful completion of goals. Coach, motivate, provide feedback, and develop others. Ability to lead by example using hands on work ethic. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel. Excellent presentation skills, collaboration, organizational, time management and problem-solving skills. Ability to work efficiently and meet all deadlines with timeliness and quality. Ability to work and thrive independently and in a team environment, focused on achieving results. Ability to communicate effectively to all internal and external levels while maintaining cooperative working relationships with the home office, location personnel, vendors, all levels of management and ownership. Ability to assess individual restaurant performance to provide operational action plans for positive change. Ability to demonstrate learning agility and critical thinking skills and apply basic concepts in new situations. Possess a high level of business acumen. Ability to maintain consistent attendance required. Supervisory Responsibility Direct reports include all location supervisors and hourly team members. Physical Requirements/Environment/Working Conditions Being present in the building is a requirement. This job operates predominantly in a restaurant environment requiring standing for long periods of time. Must be physically present in the building. This role is not eligible for remote work. Exposure to heat, smoke, cold temperatures. Must have the ability to sit and stand; exhibit manual dexterity to use equipment; read printed material with or without vision aids; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; to bend, to stoop, to walk and to reach overhead. Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record with the ability to travel domestically including multiple hour drives and flights on occasion. This is a full-time position. This position may require long hours, weekend/holiday work and irregular hours under heavy pressure/stress during busy times.
