Overview Part-Time Wood Shop Assembler – 2nd Shift (Harlan, IA) Are you looking for hands-on work in a dynamic and supportive environment? Join our team in the Wood Shop as a Part-Time / Temporary Assembler on 2nd Shift! Schedule Monday–Thursday 6 hours/day Flexible start time between 3:00 PM and Midnight Responsibilities Assemble wooden or cardboard containers, or select preassembled containers Insert items into containers with care and accuracy Nail covers onto wooden crates and bind containers with metal tape $2 per hour shift differential pay for 2nd shift Verifies and keeps records on outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Compares identifying information and counts weighs, or measures items of outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. Determines the method of shipment. Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons. Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers. Insert items into containers. Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape. Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers. Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage. Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications. Maintains the inventory of shipping materials and supplies. Operates tier lift truck or uses hand-truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area. Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping schedules. Inspect shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments. Counts, weighs, measures, or examines packaging and contents for conformance to company specifications. Compares items packed with customer's orders and other identifying data. Performs clerical tasks such as computer data entry, typing correspondence, and keeping files. Delivers incoming goods to respective departments. Works to sustain 5S. Supports and upholds the quality and EHS policy. Upholds the Core Values. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Employee must be willing and able to successfully pass our in-house forklift & overhead crane certification program prior to operating these machines within our facility. Operating these machines is an essential function of this role. This certification program will assess proficiency in safe operation according to our company’s standards and protocols. Training will be provided.
