Research Lab Assistant

Overview Tennessee Oncology, one of the nation’s largest community-based cancer care specialists, is home to a leading clinical trial network. Key Responsibilities Collect and process human biological specimens, including phlebotomy and point-of-care testing, following established procedures and protocols. Assist investigators during dissections or surgery and support tissue collection, processing, and specimen distribution for research studies and clinical trials. Maintain laboratory and surgical areas using proper aseptic techniques and label, record, and process samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) per protocol guidelines. Travel to sites where specimens are collected, refrigerate samples, and calculate travel mileage for reimbursement. Manage outside specimen requests, receiving and returning tissue samples from outside pathology facilities and coordinating with vendors for slide preparation. Document study participant information and clinical data while maintaining patient confidentiality and ensuring data management protocols. Track laboratory temperatures, troubleshoot deviations, and monitor ambient, refrigerator, and freezer conditions. Maintain inventory of specimen collection devices, tubes, lab kits, and supplies, and participate in proficiency testing and quality control checks. Perform administrative duties including answering phones, computer data entry, and preparing paperwork. Assist clinical research teams, study sponsors, and laboratories with data collection, sample tracking, and query resolution. Carry out any other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Independent decision-making and accurate information processing. Project organization and multi-tasking abilities. Pipetting accuracy and maintenance of sterile conditions. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Excel and Word spreadsheets. Education & Experience High School Diploma or Equivalent. Valid Driver’s License. Training and/or certification as a Laboratory Technician, Lab Technician, Phlebotomist, or Medical Assistant per state/local requirements. Minimum one (1) year experience in a medical field. At least two (2) years experience in a clinic, medical, or laboratory setting. Associate degree or higher preferred. Clinical research or oncology experience highly preferred. Physical Requirements Capable of lifting up to 25 pounds. Willing to travel to satellite clinics and biopsy facilities as necessary. #J-18808-Ljbffr
