Overview Providing education and support to patients regarding their medical conditions and the forensic process. Responsibilities Conduct restoration sessions and groups, and provide testing to prepare patients for competency evaluations. Organize the timeliness of evaluations and coordinate with psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and other multidisciplinary team members regarding patient readiness for evaluation. Manage the waiting list for outpatient and inpatient evaluations. Make internal and external notifications for all evaluations. Provide programmatic development and support, evaluations, and intensive casework for patients with challenging, complex, and complicated mental health problems while admitted to the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital. Gather and present admission information from courts, jails, attorneys, hospitals, and families to determine eligibility for patient admissions, then present findings to the Utilization Review Committee for final approval or denial. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree and the equivalent of three years of full‑time experience in a social work capacity in a public or private agency. OR graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in social work and the equivalent of two years of full‑time experience in a social work capacity in a public or private agency. OR a Master’s degree in social work from an accredited college or university. OR an equivalent combination of graduate education in the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university and qualifying experience up to a maximum of thirty semester hours for one year of the required experience. OR employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of one year of full‑time experience as a Social Worker. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in social work. Licensed Social Worker – LMSW or LISW. Two years of experience in the care of persons with mental health disorders as defined in the Iowa Administrative Code, 481 Section 51.36(2). Experience with forensic psychiatric services and multidisciplinary team coordination.
