MRI Technologist I

Job Summary Operates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment to produce cross‑sectional images of patients' bodies for diagnostic purposes. Location Yale Campus, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74136 Minimum Education Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program, or an MRI accredited program. Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT). MRI registry preferred. Work Experience 0–6 months related experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively and efficiently. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Performs MRI examinations according to department policy and protocols. Prepares and positions patients for MRI procedures of various body parts. Positions equipment (coils, monitoring devices, etc.) to best demonstrate the body part under study. Conducts quality‑control tests on department equipment and reports discrepancies. Collects and evaluates relevant examination information from scheduling, patient, and referring physician, including screening information. Maintains departmental records and patient information according to policy. Responds to patients' physical and psychological needs, keeping them informed and alleviating anxiety. Answers patient questions with patience and courtesy. Performs safety procedures for outpatients, inpatients, patients' families, and hospital staff. Scans patients and personnel for metal objects or contraindicated implants that could harm the patient or equipment. Ensures no patient, visitor, or healthcare worker enters the scan room with prohibited metal objects or implants. Evaluates scanning results for quality and completeness. Manipulates images using the console keyboard and mouse for display to physicians. Uses terminal to select image display options and resolve operational problems. Sends images to the PACS system, verifies examination completeness, and completes documentation on the log book worksheet and charge records. Develops working knowledge of all PACS capabilities. Seeks advice from appropriate resources when unsure of protocol or policy. Decision Making Employs independent judgment to plan operation sequences and make minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field. Working Relationships Works directly with patients, internal customers (telephone or face‑to‑face interaction), external customers (telephone or face‑to‑face interaction), and other healthcare professionals and staff.
