Equipment Operator

Job TitleResponsible for operating various types of light equipment, including but not limited to compact loader, skid steer, loader/backhoe, mini-excavator, <12k forklift, riding compactor, tractors, roller, and water truck to excavate, move and/or grade material.Location & Travel Details: Location and travel detailsCompany OverviewResponsibilities include promoting and complying with all company and safety policies and procedures. Operate gasoline, diesel, pneumatic or electric powered equipment to move objects or material according to project specifications. Perform maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing and oiling machines. Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members. Check fuel supplies at sites to ensure adequate availability. Drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades in successive passes over working areas to remove topsoil, vegetation, or rocks or to distribute and level earth or terrain. Follow load capacity charts and assure proper equipment support based on equipment capacity and type. Observe the travel of all loads and take appropriate action to avoid injury to personnel or damage to property. Read, understand and apply operating manuals, plans and specifications and visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions. Accurately fill out equipment and maintenance records and reports on a regular basis as required. Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed reporting any issues to your supervision. Ensure that construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, in good working order, and daily equipment inspections are completed for equipment being used. Comply with company code of conduct and jobsite policies. Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision. Must have the ability to communicate clearly, listen and understand information through spoken words and sentences to ensure full comprehension of job duties, safety regulations, and other situations that may require an immediate response. May be required to travel to different jobsites on limited notice. Position may involve performing other duties as required which may not be mentioned and may change from time to time as assigned by superintendent or foreman.QualificationsEducation and work experience requirements include a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years or more related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, skills and abilities required include taking reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek's Zero Injury principles. Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, read engineering drawings and procedure manuals. Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Knowledge and operation of various GPS systems. Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Workers should be able to work within precise standards of accuracy; follow set procedures and standards, judge distances and slopes accurately; and make decisions based on verifiable standards. Working knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in structural fills, DOT, and other public and private entities.Working EnvironmentRegularly exposed to outside weather conditions. Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, and extreme heat. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.
