Camp Counselor – Summer Camp Location: Erica & Anthony Boys & Girls Club (2001 Taft Street) & Allied Family Boys & Girls Club (4619 Jenewein Road) Reports To: Program Director Schedule: June 1, 2026 start – August 14, 2026 end. Hours: Monday–Friday 8:00 am–8:30 pm, occasional evenings/weekends, occasional travel. Overview: The Camp Counselor plans and implements fun and engaging activities within BGCDC’s five key program areas: Healthy Lifestyles, Character & Leadership, Sports & Recreation, Academic Success, and the Arts, in a DCF 252 licensed summer camp program. The counselor works with youth ages 5–18, provides positive guidance, ensures safety, and may carry out grant‑funded initiatives. Must pass drug screen, background and reference checks. Requires flexibility to work at any assigned location. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of youth development outcomes and provides positive guidance, role modeling, and daily support to members. Promote program participation and ensure youth safety, implementing positive behavior management techniques and adhering to DCF 252 and BGCDC policies. Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate activities for youth ages 5–18, ensuring academic success and grant‑funded outcomes are met. Administer first aid, complete documentation, and uphold a sanitary and organized program space. Maintain a professional environment, support volunteers and community partners, and participate in staff meetings and training. Contribute to the Young Star program evaluation process and represent the Boys & Girls Clubs brand professionally. Relationships Internal: Maintain daily contact with club staff, volunteers, members, and the supervisor for effective communication and instruction. External: Engage with community groups, schools, families, and stakeholders to foster collaboration and support member well‑being. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to work with youth ages 5–18. Active supervision and problem‑solving skills. At least 18 years of age; eligibility as a caregiver under DCF 252. Successful completion of drug test, background check, physical examination, and reference check. Strong verbal, written, and communication skills. Completion of 24 hours of pre‑camp training and orientation. Working Conditions & Physical Demands Must be able to read and interpret safety documents, communicate clearly, physically monitor activities, perform CPR or first aid, handle and move objects, frequently stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, jump, kneel, crouch, crawl, occasionally sit, and lift up to 20 pounds. Activities occur indoors and outdoors. Qualifications High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Preferred experience working with youth in licensed or comparable environments. Successfully pass background check, drug screen, and reference check. Compensation & Benefits Hourly, non‑exempt, part‑time, temporary. Additional employment may be available for the school year based on position availability.
