ACADEMIC ADVISOR II - Broken Arrow
This is an advanced, second level advisor position that provides academic advising services to Northeastern State University students and is responsible for coordinating academic advising activities within the designated College.
Major duties include:
- Providing students with registration and academic program information; communicating general policy information and available services to declared students.
- Participating in and leading professional development and training activities for Academic Advisors.
- Responsible for communication and collaboration within the designated College and the greater Academic Advising community.
- Creating and providing reports to the Executive Director of University Advising.
- Assisting students with course registration and other university processes.
- Ensuring that students are familiar with the university catalog and other relevant advisement information and tools.
- Collaborating with NSU department chairs and associate deans to maintain Plans of Study and Course Sequence materials.
- Reviewing and updating student information in the BANNER system as appropriate.
- Assisting with the transfer credit evaluation process.
- Serving as liaison to instructional departments; facilitating student referrals to appropriate faculty advisor.
- Monitoring student academic progression to ensure student retention standards are met.
- Attending and assisting with regular departmental and University Advising Center training sessions and other professional development activities.
- Coordinating intrusive advising appointments with students.
- Providing input and assisting in formulation of University advisement policy and procedures, and representing advising interests and concerns on various University committees as needed.
- Representing the College at assigned recruitment events and meetings.
- Performing related duties.

- Admission to the university and its academic programs, registration and degree program requirements.
- Academic standards governing the student population.
- Student recruitment and retention principles.
- Computers and job-related software programs, including the BANNER system.
- Decision making and problem solving.
- Interpersonal relations and dealing with the public.
- Ability to meet professional competency outcomes.
- Oral and written communication.
Supervisory controls include:
The supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
Guidelines include:
Operational guidelines for the position include the University Catalog, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requirements, ORSHE requirements, and NACADA best practices. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.
Complexity/scope of work includes:
The work consists of varied academic advising duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to provide academic advising to undergraduate university students. Success in this position contributes to the success of university students.
Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college personnel, undergraduate students, faculty, and members of the general public. Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to motivate or influence persons.
Physical demands/work environment include:
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk table or while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects. The work is typically performed in an office.
Supervisory and management responsibility includes:
This position may have direct supervision over assigned personnel.
Minimum qualifications include:
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Successfully completed an extensive training and evaluation program. Demonstrated a high level of professional standards and proficiencies as established by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance. Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a master's degree in a course of study related to an occupational field represented by a discipline within the College. One year professional experience in a similar position or one year advising apprenticeship/internship at the college level.
Annual salary $39,828.00 with excellent benefits, including generous leave time. Anticipated hire date: 10/12/2026. Applications will be accepted until: 9/27/2026.
