Maintenance Supervisor

Helping Hands provides HOPE and CARE through personal, trauma-informed programs to individuals experiencing homelessness. Our programs are Trauma‑Informed, Data‑Driven, and Person‑Centered. We take the time to learn each individual's story and help connect them to the appropriate local resources and services to meet their unique needs. We do not duplicate available services; instead, we build strong collaborative partnerships with local programs and foster connections between participants and our community partners. Position Summary In addition to having a passion for helping others, being nonjudgmental, and able to navigate difficult situations in positive and constructive ways, the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and overall upkeep of Bybee Lakes HOPE Center, a 155,000‑square‑foot facility. This position supervises two Maintenance Techs, coordinates and maintains schedule of preventative maintenance activities, oversees building systems and repairs, and ensures the facility remains safe, functional, and welcoming for participants, staff, volunteers, and visitors. This is a full‑time, benefit‑eligible position scheduled mostly Monday through Friday typical business hours, with evening and weekend availability required for emergent situations. Responsibilities Strong knowledge of building and facility maintenance, and general construction practices, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, masonry, drywall repair, and basic electrical work. Ability to diagnose maintenance issues, evaluate repair options, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner. Experience supervising maintenance staff, assigning work orders, monitoring performance, and fostering a positive team environment. Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs, safety standards, and facility operations. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects, manage competing deadlines, and maintain accurate maintenance records. Proficiency with computers, email, work order systems, inventory tracking, and Microsoft Office. Ability to order supplies, maintain inventory levels, and coordinate with vendors, contractors, and service providers. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with participants, staff, partners, and contractors. Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and decision‑making skills. Strong problem‑solving, critical‑thinking, and troubleshooting abilities. Ability to remain calm and effective during emergencies, facility incidents, and unexpected maintenance challenges. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training, trade certification, or related technical education preferred. Minimum of three years of experience in facility maintenance, building operations, construction, or a related field. Minimum one year of supervisory or team leadership experience. Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance practices, tools, equipment, and safety procedures. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in basic computer applications and professional phone etiquette. Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Ability to assess situations, identify solutions, and take appropriate corrective action. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record preferred. Preferred Qualifications Direct or lived experience with homelessness, addiction, recovery, and/or low‑income populations. Understanding of issues surrounding homelessness, substance use disorders, domestic violence, mental health challenges, and sexual assault. Experience working within social service, shelter, housing, nonprofit, or community‑based environments. OSHA safety training, trade certifications, or other relevant maintenance credentials preferred. Physical & Mental Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, reach overhead, and move throughout a large facility for extended periods. Frequently required to lift, carry, push, pull, and move materials, tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally more with assistance or appropriate equipment. Ability to safely operate maintenance tools, equipment, machinery, and vehicles as required. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, rain, and other environmental conditions. Ability to navigate mechanical rooms, rooftops, stairways, storage areas, and other maintenance‑access locations. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle tools, equipment, and maintenance materials. Hearing and vision sufficient to identify maintenance issues, operate equipment safely, and communicate effectively with others. Ability to sit, stand, and use a computer and other office equipment for documentation, scheduling, inventory management, and communication. Ability to respond to emergencies, urgent repair needs, and facility safety concerns in a timely manner. Ability to maintain concentration, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds while maintaining appropriate boundaries and confidentiality.
