Accountant II

Position Purpose This is a General Accounting position that may include tasks such as monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts related to direct and indirect costs, problem solving, researching, explaining variances, and providing recommendations to upper management and executives; assisting with audits, sales/use tax returns, and keying invoices into the A/P system. Requires intermediate level of Excel experience, attention to detail, and strong analytical ability to interpret financial data. Location & Logistics Companion Data Services – one of BlueCross BlueShield’s South Carolina subsidiary companies. This is a full‑time onsite position (40 hours per week) with an 8‑hour shift Monday‑Friday within 8:30 am–5:30 pm at 2401 Faraway Drive, Columbia, SC, in an office environment. What You'll Do Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts of routine to moderate complexity; initiate and/or process journal entries; review system activities for financial and operational reporting, including oversight of co‑workers’ work. Prepare financial reports for analysis, forecasting, trending, budgeting, and results analysis, ensuring transactions tie to statistical files and other financial reports; analyze data to identify problem areas and report to management. Prepare spreadsheets for daily and/or monthly balancing and reconciling; research and complete account reconciliations to maintain accurate ledgers; resolve out‑of‑balance situations and ensure outstanding items stay within standard timeframe. Maintain documentation of work papers, costing, invoicing, allocation, and other required auditable documents; assist with audit preparation and review, and provide support to internal and external auditors. Assist the supervisor with special projects and may help direct staff or function activities. Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 24 semester hours in accounting (21 semester hours for those hired before August 1, 2008 in an accounting position). Experience: 2 years of accounting experience. Skills: Fundamental accounting concepts, strong communication, organization, and analytical skills; ability to work independently. Software: Microsoft Office; proficiency with data retrieval applications. Preferred Qualifications Experience: 3 years of accounting experience. Software: Strong skills with MS Excel.
