Law Clerk- Law School Student

LAW CLERK, LITIGATION

We are seeking a current law student or law school graduate for an in-person Law Clerk position with Turnbull Brockmeyer Law Group.

Applicants must currently be enrolled in a law school in the United States or have graduated from a law school in the United States.

This is an IN-PERSON position at our Towson or Baltimore City location. Applicants must live within a reasonable commuting distance or have definite plans to relocate before beginning employment.

Strong legal writing skills are required.

Prior litigation experience is not required, but it is certainly a bonus. We are particularly interested in candidates who want hands-on experience learning how litigation actually works, from the beginning of a case through hearings, depositions, settlement negotiations, and trial.

ABOUT TURNBULL BROCKMEYER LAW GROUP

Turnbull Brockmeyer Law Group is a high-volume litigation firm handling personal injury, medical malpractice, workers’ compensation, criminal defense, family law, and general civil litigation.

We are trial lawyers, and this position is designed for someone who wants substantive experience working on real cases with attorneys actively handling litigation.

Our law clerks do more than isolated research assignments. You will work directly with attorneys on active cases and assist with the legal writing, research, analysis, investigation, discovery, and preparation that goes into litigation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Law Clerk may assist with:

• Legal research and analysis

• Drafting motions, memoranda, pleadings, and other court filings

• Legal writing for active litigation

• Researching and developing legal arguments

• Reviewing and analyzing discovery

• Drafting discovery requests and responses

• Reviewing medical records, police reports, deposition transcripts, and other evidence

• Preparing case summaries, timelines, and litigation chronologies

• Assisting with preparation for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials

• Communicating with clients, witnesses, experts, opposing counsel, and others involved in active cases

• Assisting attorneys with case development and strategy

• Managing assignments and deadlines involving multiple active cases

STRONG WRITING SKILLS ARE A REQUIREMENT

This is a writing-intensive position.

You must be able to take a set of facts, identify the legal issues, research the applicable law, analyze how the law applies to those facts, and turn that analysis into clear and persuasive legal writing.

We are looking for someone who can write, think, research, and analyze.

Prior experience drafting motions, memoranda, pleadings, discovery, or other litigation documents is a significant plus, but we are also interested in law students who have developed strong writing skills through law school and want the opportunity to apply those skills to actual litigation.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Currently enrolled in a U.S. law school or a graduate of a U.S. law school

• Strong legal research and writing skills

• Excellent grammar and attention to detail

• Ability to analyze complicated factual and legal issues

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines

• Comfortable working in a busy, high-volume law firm

• Motivated and willing to learn

• Able to take direction while also being willing to independently research and figure out unfamiliar issues

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal research platforms

• Prior litigation experience is preferred, but not required

FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME

We are open to both full-time and part-time candidates.

For current law students, we understand that work schedules must accommodate law school classes. Availability and scheduling can be discussed based upon the candidate’s law school schedule and the needs of the firm.

IN-PERSON, TOWSON OR BALTIMORE CITY

This is not a remote position.

The Law Clerk will work in person from our Towson or Baltimore City location. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the office for their scheduled workdays.

We want someone who actually wants to learn litigation.

You should be curious, motivated, dependable, organized, and comfortable being given a problem and figuring out how to approach it.

You do not need to walk through the door already knowing everything about litigation. You do need to be able to research, write, think critically, take direction, meet deadlines, and learn.
