I-44 Express is a logistics and transportation company serving the greater St. Louis area, delivering reliable freight, express shipping, and supply chain solutions for businesses across the region. We pride ourselves on operational efficiency, safety, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Position Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of I-44 Express, ensuring that all logistics, dispatch, driver management, and facility functions run smoothly, safely, and on schedule. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires strong organizational skills, a data-driven mindset, and the ability to inspire a team in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations & Logistics
• Oversee all daily dispatch, routing, and scheduling for drivers and freight movements
• Monitor on-time performance metrics and proactively resolve delays or service disruptions
• Coordinate with warehouse and dock teams to ensure efficient load planning and execution
• Manage relationships with carriers, vendors, and third-party logistics partners
Team Leadership & Development
• Supervise, coach, and develop a team of dispatchers, drivers, and support staff
• Conduct performance reviews, set individual goals, and foster a culture of accountability
• Recruit and onboard new operations team members in partnership with HR
• Lead daily/weekly team huddles and ensure clear communication across shifts
Safety & Compliance
• Enforce all DOT, FMCSA, and company safety regulations across all operations
• Conduct driver qualification reviews and maintain compliance records
• Lead incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective action plans
• Champion a safety-first culture through training, awareness, and accountability
Financial & Performance Management
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including cost per mile, on-time delivery, utilization, and fuel efficiency
• Assist in developing and managing operational budgets and controlling expenses
• Identify process improvement opportunities to reduce cost and increase throughput
• Prepare and present regular operations reports to senior leadership
Customer & Partner Relations
• Serve as an escalation point for customer service issues related to shipments or delivery
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and partners across the greater St. Louis area
• Collaborate with sales to support capacity planning and new business onboarding
Qualifications
Required
• 5+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or freight operations
• 2+ years in a supervisory or management role
• Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and FMCSA compliance
• Proficiency with transportation management systems (TMS) and dispatch software
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume, time-sensitive environment
• Excellent communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills
Preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field
• Experience managing driver pools of 15+ employees
• Familiarity with the greater St. Louis area and regional transportation networks
• Six Sigma, Lean, or other process improvement certifications
