Registered Nurse (RN)

The Registered Nurse will join a float pool specializing in MedSurg, Telemetry, and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) settings. The role requires a dedicated professional who is flexible and ready to work across multiple units, accommodating various patient needs and conditions.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Stepdown
• Patient Ratios:
  • PCU: 1:4
  • MedSurg Tele: 1:5-6
• Common Diagnoses:
  • Geriatric patients
  • Orthopedic patients
  • Post-procedural care, especially from Cardiac Catheterization Lab
  • Post Myocardial Infarction (MI) and Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) patients
• Required Certifications: BLS and ACLS certification
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a PCU setting is required

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage a variety of titratable intravenous drips, including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin.
• Provide high-quality patient care across various units within the float pool as needed.
• Collaborate with nursing staff and charge nurses, who will not take patient assignments while providing oversight.
• Interpret telemetry strips and provide patient assessment based on findings.
• Assist in managing patient care aides and ensuring optimal care delivery.

Shift and Scheduling Details

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Weekly Hours: Guaranteed 36 hours
• Scheduling:
  • Shift times are 7 AM to 7 PM and 7 PM to 7 AM.
  • A scheduler will organize shifts, which will be published six weeks in advance for a four-week period.
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirements: Participation in holiday rotations as required
• Notification of Assignments: Nurses will receive assignments two hours prior to their shift via text message.

Orientation and Training

• An 8-hour general hospital orientation followed by a 12-hour shift orientation in the West MedTele and PCU units is required.
• The East unit provides a similar, yet streamlined orientation experience.

Additional Information

There is no call or standby requirement for this position. Nurses must be adaptable to changes in their schedules as they float between different units.
