Description

- ANTICIPATED START DATE : 2026-27 SCHOOL YEAR
- Benefits--Medical/Dental/Vision through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) are provided for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year.

- POSITION REQUIREMENT : This position requires a Washington State ESA Certificate.

- Assist school personnel, parents, and community agencies in obtaining appropriate programming for communication disabled students through evaluations, consultations, therapy, and demonstration teaching relating to individual students.
- Ensure implementation of screening and follow-up evaluation procedures utilized to identify communication disabled students as per WAC 392-172A.
- Utilize appropriate diagnostic instruments and techniques for determining essential IEP goal statements and related service needs.
- Provide remedial and/or developmental instruction to individual students requiring speech and language services.
- Monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic programs for individual students and adjust services accordingly.
- Provide and maintain complete records and reports for every student receiving assessment, instructional, and habilitative services.
- Provide for the improvement of speech and language programs, services, and instruction offered to students through in-service training of parents, teachers, SLP assistants, aides, and volunteers.
- Ensure continuity and coordination of speech and language services in assigned school(s) by providing for interoffice communication and relations with multi-disciplinary team members and other special education programs via the regional coordinator.
- Provide ongoing program planning and evaluation reports as may be required.
- Ensure the application of current educational practice and maintenance of clinical competency by participating in staff development activities.
- Be responsible for monitoring and assuring compliance with all district policy/procedures and rules and regulations (e.g., eligibility, evaluation, and placement) as specified for disabled students within WAC 392-172A.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the respective area coordinator.
- Valid ESA certificate in related area of specialty or the ability to obtain conditional certification.
- Master's degree in speech and language pathologist or closely related field.
- Demonstrated understanding of the essential requirements within IDEA and its application to the provision of compliant services for the disabled.
- Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of parents, teachers, and administrators in providing direct and indirect services to disabled students in a confidential manner.
- Previous experience as a speech and language pathologist or in closely related field within a public school setting preferred.
- Ability to express thoughts concisely and effectively.
- Knowledge of sign language and augmentative communication preferred.
- Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socio-economics, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Work Schedule - Days and hours (listed above) are subject to change depending on program and district needs.
- Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays - Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement as negotiated.

- School District Employees participate in the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) public pension plan. Employees can choose from a lifetime retirement pension plan or a hybrid pension and investment plan that contributes between 5% and 15% of wages to retirement. When employees meet plan requirements and retire, they are guaranteed a monthly benefit for the rest of their life from the employer-funded pension.
- Employees can also participate in voluntary savings programs to increase retirement savings such as the DRS Deferred Compensation Program or by participating in a 403(b) retirement plan through the District's plan manager, OMNI.
